Help! My 'lawn' is in a dreadful state
Discussion
As per the title, my front garden is in a dreadful state after the summer we've had. Balding and full of weeds.
I can't afford to have it ripped up and relaid, so what can I do to recover something like a decent patch of grass? I'm not looking for a bowling green (or even a football pitch), but I'm happy to spend a bit on treatments and some time working on it, if it's not terminal?
All help/advice appreciated. This is what it looks like today....

Id try buy/borrow/hire an electric lawn rake and give it a couple of runs over with that then get some seed down as soon as possible. You might just about be in time for any grass seed but if you leave it a couple more weeks depending on where you are in the country you'd be needing the cold stuff along the lines of https://www.hmseeds.co.uk/product-page/20kg-coldst...
Then probably repeat in early spring.
