Hopefully someone here can help.
In a nutshell, our son was convicted in March for a drug related incident that had happened 3 years previous in his first few weeks of Uni. He received a 2 year suspended sentence on the back of the CPS taking forever to bring it to trial. Some good news. He has since graduated with all the stress of this hanging over him and we are proud he is determined to rehabilitate himself and has already found a job.
He made a mistake, he’ll carry the conviction until spent and then we are convinced he’ll add value to society. He is living at home.
Moving to now, our multi car / home policy is up for renewal next week and our insurers have refused to offer cover for the home element. Cars have been OK.. We have been loyal customer’s for 8 years with no claims. We were honest and explained his situation. Reading through the web it looks like any insurer takes a really dim view of someone living in your house, even a blood relative, when it comes to offering insurance. Has anyone overcome this and secondly where would I go to get a new policy. Any suggestions really appreciated.

I can't ever remember having to "list" people who live in the house, on a home insurance policy or being asked about convictions that they might have?

I know that it asks you when doing car insurance, so maybe that is how they know and subsequently say no to home cover for whatever reasons.

Have you tried doing it through confused/compare the market using a different provider?

It's usually in the "general conditions" that nobody ever reads.

Yeah, that is true. Was thinking that.

I noticed that there is a company out there that specialises in this...

Go on any of the car insurance comparison websites, tick the box for a criminal conviction and most of them will instantly no quote you. They only want safe vanilla customers. Some will direct you to a broker after a no quote.
