Anyone considering changing plans due to the current un rest in Northern Europe?
Was in Brussels in June, central station closed, riot police kids running amok, living in London it's not that unusual to us but goodness knows what the Japanese and Chinese visitors thought!
Off again this weekend, beer and cyclo cross watching, but strike on Friday and march through Brussels, trains on strike Monday, kind of puts me off for the future

It wouldn't change my plans - but chiefly because I don't take holidays in city centres. I'm generally in the middle of nowhere in France near tiny villages.

Up until 3 years ago we’d have a couple of holidays a year (mainly to France, Spain or Italy) and would drive there.

I really fancied next year having 10 days in the Dordogne, probably stopping at Orleans on the way down and St. Malo on the way back. However, with all the unrest and Migrant issues, I’m simply not going to bother.

Been to France on two long roads trips since May, St Malo twice.

Not a single issue anywhere.

Not sure why people are so worried

The chances of anyone going on holiday to Northern Europe (this is an incredibly vague term covering a huge area) and being affected by un rest (sic) is pretty much zero. Sadly, social media and 24 hour news creates unjustified panic. For example, despite what Rupert Lowe would have me believe I recently spent a weekend in London and wasn't continually stabbed to death.

Unrest in the Dordogne? I assume your post is satirical.

I heard they were so upset that they almost said something.

A strongly worded letter to the Times would certainly do the trick.

Jeff Wayne's version was way better.

Rather than rush down to the Dordogne (as usual) we’d of stayed in a few places (cities) on the way down and back. With the unrest and the migrant issues, I just don’t fancy it. I’m fully aware that the chances of being caught up in something are virtually nil. However there are lots of other places to visit that don’t have these issues.

I can't help thinking you're massively overreacting to things that are blown out of proportion of the media and those seeking to weaponise things for their own advantage. Please don't let them win that battle. All major cities have nice areas and not so nice areas, but it is pretty easy to spot this and avoid accordingly.

My experience of travelling through France is that it is mostly empty, so much so that virtually avoiding all people entirely is actually possible if you wanted. The bigger issue for holiday makers in France in the summer months is the seemingly increasing intensity and frequency of wildfires.

9 out of 10 fires in France are started by humans.

Yes - a completely OTT response to a total non issue.

We recently drove from St. Malo down to San Sebastian, via Vannes and then back via Bordeaux and Concarneau. Apart from a blowout on the N10 just north of Bordeaux and long queues at SOME petrol stations we neither saw nor encountered anything at all to give us the slightest concern that something might be afoot.

There didn't seem to be any logic over the queues for fuel. We never had any issues filling up, and some Total stations had no queue, so I don't think it was purely a price thing.

Ok, are you being deliberately obtuse? What is the relevance of that information to this thread? Yes, some fire are started deliberately and some are started accidentally but the majority are caused by humans. I haven't seen many cows smoking! Is the point you're trying to make is that you scared of dying in a wildfire?

Am in Helsinki at the moment (I think that counts as Northern Europe), it's lovely. Bit cold but no trouble anywhere. Off to Tallinn tomorrow. Will report back on any riots we see.

Thoughts and prayers, stay safe out there.
