Food delivery riders and speeding
Discussion
Not before time either. Speeding everywhere including pavements.
Each bike to have a unique visible number would be a good addition.
"Deliveroo will track riders’ speeds to halt illegal e-bikes
Conversion kits can turn ordinary cycles into high-powered machines, prompting concerns over dangerous riding, fires and road safety"

Kind of assumed they could and already were doing this sort of thing given every single thing goes through a phone app AFAIK.
It was apparently already a thing that riders would register as a cyclist but use a moped, to work around the need to submit insurance details on the app (which wasn't even a legal requirement of the companies). They would never question why an order was picked up and delivered 2 miles uphill at an average speed of 30mph by bicycle.Gareth79 said:

Yeah now you say that and I think of my general view of how these companies stretch rules and minimise liabilities and I'm not actually surprised.Spare tyre said:
Where we live is a nice enough place
We are now in the uber eats catchment
Grown men driving mopeds down alleyways - at least you can hear them
I don t think they learnt to drive in the UK so it s probably the norm for them
Not acceptable
I can honestly say I have never used any of the uber/just/etc eats servicesWe are now in the uber eats catchment

I could order from my local indian via their services but I go direct and collect it myself because it's a 5 min walk or a 2 min drive - I'd still collect myself if it was 15 min drive.
If people didn't use them the issue of bad driving/speeding would rapidly be solved - so that's what I do
Bet it will make bugger all difference as most of the riders won't have registered as using a moped, they will be registered as riding a bicycle.
Almost all of the electric bikes being used for these sort of services aren't road legal, if you see them exceeding 15.5mph. An ebike that is compliant with the law doesn't require insurance etc but is limited to 250w motor and 15.5mph top speed.
Same as any private e-bikes or scooters you see without lights and number plates but going quicker than that. They should all be seized and destroyed / recycled.

Couldnt agree more, ive never used one either, if i want a takeaway i collect it.I could order from my local indian via their services but I go direct and collect it myself because it's a 5 min walk or a 2 min drive - I'd still collect myself if it was 15 min drive.

People have got so lazy.
I consider having a takeaway lazy in its self, and yes i do have one on occasion, but to not even pick it up is just wrong.

Priority is all wrong here.
How many of us have been run over by a speeding ebike?
Now, how many of us have received a cold pizza?
Get these lads in Yamaha R1s and let's concentrate on the important things in life.
Pizza is something I don't order via delivery services... most chains run their own delivery services which are cheaper and have those bags that mean your food arrives hot. How many of us have been run over by a speeding ebike?

I get the joke, but to be serious the risk with speeding e-bikes is more to the rider and less to others. I know a few people who've had some nasty falls from e-bikes.

Now if you're finished on your high horse, for most of us, restaurants are located in the town centre and parking is £2.50 an hour plus the 15 mins to drive in if you're lucky (not to mention the fuel as the drive in isn't going to be efficient motorway driving). So that 5 mins easily stretches over an hour or more and then you've got to be careful because going a few minutes over 1 hour at the car park means parking is now £5... when it was already cheaper to get it deliveroo'd on just the fuel and 1 hours parking alone.
Also... delivery drivers are not the source of all bad driving/speeding... so if they disappeared overnight the situation on the roads would still be s
