The public will be able to watch via livestream the execution of a former US Army major by firing squad, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said.

I'd like to be able to suggest this is some kind of sick April Fool's joke. But it is not April, and this is actually real.

I hope if they go through with this that any footage will be from very far away, rather than a full-on ISIS-style production.

WTF, America?

The downward spiral of this American administration's morality, humanity and decency continues. Hegseth is a fking disgrace.

Read it earlier, but it sounds like it won't happen.

Americans conducting an execution. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm sure live-streaming a paraplegic Muslim in a wheelchair being executed by firing squad will do wonders for the US's global reputation.

Probably all for $99.95 on Trump TV.

What could possibly go wrong.

Trump missed a trick. Could have made it Pay per view...

What does the wheelchair have to do with anything?

Nothing at all.

Shooting disabled people on live TV looks great.

a bit ghoulish I have to say.

I think it should be recorded in someway to ensure things were done right - as right as you can do such a thing - but it doesn't need to broadcast.

Live broadcast is insane. I think the legal ramifications of this will likely mean it won't be done any time soon, and perhaps even after the Orange one is forced to reluctantly step down.

What a terrible, corrupt, shambles of a nation they have turned into. The laughing stock of the world.

Heard this overnight. Assumed it was a joke!

What a crazy time to be alive.

What did they do to get that kind of punishment?

If it isn't relevant why bring up the fact that he is disabled rather than what he did or any other fact about him?

I know this is slightly off topic in terms of your reply, but Mr Penguin do you think live streaming the execution of *anyone* is even vaguely appropriate? Ignore the obvious question as to whether judicial execution is appropriate in a ‘civilised’ society, I’m interested in your opinion on it being streamed.

Ok and he is in a wheel chair because of that day.

Makes way more sense now.

Do you think they will have slo-mo and stop action replays of the actual impact?
