Hi all,
2011 Rapide - has anyone any ideas what this plug is for please? Was stripping out the dash panels to get the leather sorted out and on removing the panel with B&O reflector device on the left side found it loose in the recess. Looks like fibre optic/optical cable but sound system is working fine. It was not connected to the B&O reflector either. I believe there is windscreen antenna amplifier device looking in the parts catalogue in that area but can't see/feel anything and the radio reception sounds ok, but could be behind the A pillar trim? Any other systems that may use optical comms?
Thanks in advance......

I don’t know the answer to your question, but as a comment AML harnesses often have a lot of redundancy, where the wiring for options or versions is already present - they don’t have the volumes or the budget to have multiple dedicated harnesses like the high-volume boys do, and Astons tend to gave a lot of optional features.

Usually any non-applicable plugs are taped back with paper tape so the build tech can tear them free and use them if the build sheet indicates that the variant/option is to be fitted to that particular car.

I’m not saying it’s the case in this instance, but don’t be surprised if the plug was never for anything actually in your car.

Thanks LTP. I was wondering the same also,

After a bit more research, it looks like it could be a FAKRA type connector so not optical (in my work Fibre Optic cables have purple/mauve sleeves so that is why I went down that route due to the clip colour). Seems that they are usually in RF and audio systems and looking in the parts catalogue could be part of the "Overlay Coaxial cable" harness which seems to connect up the audio system. If I can find a way of just pulling back the A pillar trim without having to remove the whole cant rail trim, I'll just see if I can find the antenna amplifier as that is the most likely connection. If not, it is probably a redundant connection.
