According to this|http://www.egovmonitor.com/node/3118 there are people who are willing to pay up to £250 for a combined ID card and passport!

The price has, however been set at £30.

Home Office research shows 75% of the public supports the scheme

We asked 100 random punters in the audience at the recent Labour conference and 75 of them (under pain of violence from Big Bazza and his fellow bouncers) said they were in favour or paying. Since this is a clear cross-sector polling sample of the entire UK population it must mean that 75% of the entire country must also be in favour.

There are lies, damn lies and statistics.

Its £30 for the ID card

The Passport and ID card pack is £93

They can right off.

Also, I would very much like to know how many people and their socio-demographic profile of the respondants who were 72% in favour

I particularly liked the fact that they didn't detail how many people were surveyed, how they were selected or what the actual questions asked were.

In a seperate poll UK Gov has also found that when asked whether Tony Bliar was doing

a) an excellent job,
b) a superb job or
c)a brilliant job that

an astonishing 100% who responded though Tony was doing an excellent job or better.

You will be required to renew your driving licence, when you do you will be required to pop down to the local gestapo office to give your fingerprints/ iris scan, and you will get an ID card anyway. Or you can drive unlicensed and uninsured, difficult decision that isn't it? It will be introduced in a quiet and back door way to avoid mass protest.

The Daily Mail is against everything.

More like "...in a survey of 100 people, asked whether they would rather pay £30 for an ID card or £250, 25 people didn't understand the question."

Well in a quick poll of the 5 daily mail READERS in the office 100% are in favour of ID cards to keep out immigrants ( Don't think they've yet grasped the sublety of the mails angle here )

Mail readers don't do much reading, or spend much time on the pics - they just like getting angry reading the headlines.....

i am a Daily Mail reader, and i like to think of the Daily Mail as a rabid dog out of control.

it will bite absolutely anyone it wants to.

which is better than the way most of our press sucks up to our current govt.

What an absolute joke. It doesn't work, so we'll go ahead anyway and hope it does eventually.

Millions of pounds will be squandered on this for almost no practical benefit.

Surveys? Don't make me laugh. Have a look on the DoT website; there are any number of documents (search for David Rowe) that have been produced off the back of 'surveys'... I was reading one the other day that was titled something like 'Has sentencing got tougher since the RTA 1993 introduced Dangerous Driving?'
The survey was carried out on people who'd been prosecuted in the last year or two. Now not all of those asked bothered to reply and of those who did, did anyone check they were telling the truth?
I had to return one last week, they are surveying those involved in Radioactive Transport; no doubt some bullsh!t will result. It was a compulsory questionnaire but I tried to be as evasive as possible...
