Anyone live in/near Cawood?
Discussion
My best mate has lived in Sherburn-in-Elmet and Fairburn, neither of which are a million miles from Cawood. As you say, The Motorist is the main point of interest. Plenty of good driving roads in the area. On a good day in summer you'll see plenty of interesting stuff. My mate and I stopped in a quiet, scenic spot for a bite to eat on a drive out and a Ferrari 512BB promptly appeared from a long driveway adjacent to where we were parked. Fairburn Ings is a nice place to go for a relaxing stroll. One note of caution. That "Certi" lunatic from YouTube has filmed some of his videos around there so keep an eye out for an M140i drifting towards you around the next bend at 100mph!
Lived at Cawood for 20 years, left about 10 years ago. It's a good location, York not far away & A1 about 20 mins if you need to travel. I would end up at work near Castleford without many problems. A19 is a pain every morning & speed van will tuck in just past Stillingfleet.
The flooding issue may still worry some but it's 99.99% safe now I think. Our house was about 1750 - interior walls were cement rendered to allow a quick drying out!
Take a look at the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzHlRhC3aO8 A big flood will shut the bridge & mean quite a detour - maybe 10 days or so.
Spent hundreds of happy hours walking the dogs along the river & down footpaths on the agricultural land.
Woodland walks at Bishop Wood are lovely. Great for cycling along quiet lanes.
B1222 used to be used for police driver training - don't overtake a BMW with 4 up ....
Selby for supermarket shopping, but the town like many is pretty down at heel despite the beautiful Abbey. Village school was fine, Selby High a bit up & down but it'll be an academy now.
We left to be nearer grandkids but miss the old house & the quiet. (Apart from motorbikes screaming down to the Squires cafe on a summer weekend).
Do hope it works out - anything specific just ask, but a bit out of date obviously.
