My beloved Caterham supersport departed this morning, after 18 months a few trackdays and two Alps trips. It was amazing and I will probably miss it slightly for the roads on my doorstep but.... I wanted something that had a bit more 'jump in and go'

Initially thought 30th Anniversary ND MX5 but still wanted something that had a bit of spice about it and so Toyota Elise came to the fore.

I've owned an Elise before a beautiful 111s S1 but it was so raw with the short gearing it made the Caterham feel easier for euro trips.

Anyway after speaking to Back In Track in Guildford we landed on a 111R as being a good car for me. There are not many knocking about with only 5 at the time of looking.

Anyway this black car popped up at 911Virgin that had been P/X'd against a 981 Spyder. I know the guys there well having sold them a 996 GT3 and bought a Cayman R from them.

Black wasn't the colour was after but this car had a brilliant history and had a lot of bits on it I'd want - i.e. Nitrons / Ali rad done etc.

Some pics below

Should pick it up in a couple of weeks after an MOT and a few bits the guys are doing for me.

Plans are to ditch the black wheels but probably for something a little lighter as well. Then over winter we'll drop the sump for a baffled one, sort the geo out to how I want it.

Then it's gonna be a case of as many adventures as possible and getting back to Spa and the Ring.

From the test drive it feels pretty sprightly but far more refined than the S1 and obviously Caterham.

Your car history has that voice nagging at me at the back of my head. “Told you to do better at school and concentrate”.

Brilliant history and hope you enjoy your new adventure.

Thanks dude, some cool stuff... But still one of the best trips I've ever had I was in a £4k MX5 to the Black Forest. It's always the adventure over the actual metal / fibre glass

I hear you. Drove and owned 500+bhp cars from many different markets but the most fun and the most memories I ever made was in a 1.1 Saxo that I stripped out when I was 17. Unfortunately I’m limited to light small drives cars due to being 6ft7”

Glad I found the new thread, after the wrapping up of the previous one...

I've always liked these - my wife's cousin had one, which I helped him do some clam-off jobs on in my garage. Just after he got it all sorted he managed to spin it on the M69 and wrote it off. Gutted.

Ah sorry to hear about your family friends.accident. I must admit I'm careful of them in the wet on a motorway

Picked up up today from 911Virgin for a drive round the M25, such joy.

Massive difference compared to my old S1 in refinement, it really is an okay place to sit on the motorway.

Only done 60 miles but so far it's really quite sprightly, the camera change over from the VVT is hilarious and the roof is so much easier to use than an S1.

Still don't like the black wheels but that will be fixed at some point.

Paint really is quite good and tons of service history

I enjoyed mine - Stans shifter mod is just a bolt and some washers but really stiffened the shifter assembly. I also dyed the grey alcantara black with fabric dye and a makeup sponge, again genuinely transformative for no next to no money.
