I’d like to install a watering system, for the beds rather than the lawn, although if extra nozzles would do the lawn too, then great.

I have an outdoor tap and power at one end of the garden. Think two beds down the long sides of an oblong. Maybe 15m long plus 4 of 5m to tap.

Any recommended makes or suppliers? Hints and tips? All knowledge welcomed.

Thanks. Austin.

I installed the Gardena stuff here in southern Sweden during Covid, with a timer and we have spent multiple holidays away with it all running well and more or less returning to a jungle.

We have a Verve battery operated timer on an outside tap connected to leaky pipe in our beds.

Works well and has been robust.

I’ve copper pipe running from a valve from the main house water supply inside the basement up and out through the ground floor wall, leading to a Febco pressure vacuum breaker and back into an underground distribution box of schedule 40 PVC.

This breaks out to 5 valves (Irritrol 2600T) that leads to underground rated plastic water pipe, which is buried through the garden. Each of the 5 zones has between 4 and 9 heads (largely rainbird 4”popups) with a mix of rainbird, hunter and K-rain heads – to cover ¼, ½ and full circle, with a few adjustable to cover odd shaped areas.

I’ve a rachio Iro wireless sprinkler controller in the garage, with the control wire for the valve relays leading out to the underground distribution box, So I can schedule or adjust runs, or run it all manually.

Takes a bit of maintaining every year, but it’s impossible to grow grass here without it.

Thanks all. Jimmy Jim- that sounds very impressive and beyond my diy!

I think I will give Gardena a go.
