I have Three 5G home broadband. I have an iPhone with ID Mobile (which uses Three).

In our village we have a Three 5G mast so the broadband is very reliable but the mobile signal is terrible.

My phone will often say WiFi calling in the top left corner but it has never actually worked since I got the 5G broadband - probably 3-4 years. Once I try to make a call it will only attempt via the mobile signal.

Does anyone have any experience of getting this combination to work?

I used to have Vodafone broadband and mobile which did WiFi calling seamlessly.

Wifi calling is a PITA when it doesnt work. Try this though:

If you go into the settings menu general/about then scroll down to network provider and it should say Three 64.2. If it says Three 64.1 simply tap it and it should offer you an update.

In phone app settings have you checked to see if wifi calling is preferred? You can have wifi calling switched on but if mobile signal is preferred that will override it.

If you have the WiFi Calling logo, there's a connection between your phone and the provider established, so that's half the battle.

Try enabling flight mode, then turning on WiFi only, then a test call.

If that works well, then it's down to forcing the phone to prefer WiFi calling.

If not, it's into seeing if it's a WiFi coverage or similar problem in the house.

Mine just says ID 70.0. No reference to Three.

Unfortunately iPhones don’t support this.

Thanks - that works a treat!

Maybe while I’m at home I just use Airplane Mode and with WiFi switched on.

I just tried again and now it won’t make the call and is suggesting I turn Airplane Mode off. When I do that it works again.

So it works but only for a while. All very strange.

OK. that's odd. Try this sequence, if the phone allows it.

Airplane mode.
Wifi on.
Switch phone off. (not restart, actual power off)
Switch phone on.

See if flight mode + wifi on has stuck through the power cycle, and if that makes any difference.

That’s all worked as you describe. I’m again make my WiFi calls.

Just before I did this I turned airplane Mode off and then when I switched it back on again, it didn’t disable Wi-Fi Wi-Fi just remained on anyway and it continues to do so.

I have to go out now but will keep track later and report back.

Your help is much appreciated.

I -think- what is going on there is that the VoWiFi encrypted tunnel was originally set up over mobile data, and when the phone was forced to wifi-only, the tunnel was quietly broken.

To avoid the power-off power-on cycle, you could try this sequence,

Everything on as normal.
Disable VoWiFi
Airplane mode
Wifi On
Enable VoWiFi

Have done all that. WiFi stays on whenever Airplane mode is selected now (don’t have to manually switch on) and WiFi calling works.

If it’s still working in 30/60 minutes that will be a success. Will report back.

Just tried a WiFi call and it failed. Told me to turn off airplane mode. Then a text arrived from a friend and so I tried WiFi calling again and it worked.

So frustrating wobble

This is where I put my hands up and say "apple, innit?"

There's a few variations on what we've tried already, eg, https://appletoolbox.com/wifi-calling-not-working/ which might help, but can't test any of 'em myself. (I had a quite differnt problem, but some of these steps helped in diagnosis)

I have a feeling that Three do various updates which just mucks it up. Thanks for trying anyway - appreciated.
