Hey, I've been staying in Bangers for decades it seems, and I always end up back at Soi Rambuttri - but this time its one night only, from around 3pm till the next morning (private xfer on to Koh Chang).

Fancy something different - wasn't that impressed with China Town. And Don't want to go to Shukumvit.

Any other ideas? I'm happy for up to £150 to £200 for one night for somewhere special - needs good / interesting restaurants / bars near by. No sex trade thanks.

Also, be great if we can get the train from SVB straight there.

I've nothing specific, but the Victory Monument area is very close to the end of the ARL line. Might struggle to find something suitably high-end though.

OK, the areas I was thinking of was Ratchaprarop, but I'm struggling to find anything high-end enough there too. My hotels are usually a bit more, erm, economical. biggrin

If you go all the way in to Phaya Thai, this is a walk, https://www.eastinhotelsresidences.com/eastingrand... dunno if that's what you're after? I'd go for one of the "lounge access" rooms.

Koh Chang is excellent, hope they never actually build the road bridge. We've always tended to just go straight from the airport to there by the life-in-your-hands minivan service. biggrin

Haha - done Chang loads. We land at 13:30 so a bit tight to catch the last ferry, and no rush, so a night in BKK it is. Then a relaxed private xfer to KC the next morning / after lunch.

This year its business class with Air India(!) - £1600 each, return, new planes both ways. Even if it were the old planes, at that price it's still a bargain vs economy. Only 16 days for us as trying out dog sitter for the 1st time.

Chivapuri in KC, then off to Koh Kood, then back to KC at Vayna Boutique (love the night eating on the beach near by). Then we have the whole day to private xfer back to SVB for a 22:30 flight.

Just want to to something a little different in BKK and go out for a nice dinner. Gotta resist returning to Soi Rambuttri, but then.... foot massage anda pint of Chang is hard to beat!

Yeah, there's no chance of that happening. I budget 2 hours bare minimum for disembark, emigration, baggage, change some cash downstairs. Though the new immigration booths can be really speedy now, recently we had 2 - yes 2 - people in front of us at a booth.

You probably know, but the change booths down in the Airport Rail Link station give a better rate than the Airport ones, which are all price-fixed. SuperRich usually, just whichever has a long queue as that's likely best that day. smilehttps://www.superrichthailand.com/

We've quite often stayed at Ian's guesthouse, https://iamkohchang.com/ nice if you don't mind it's a bit away from the action.

I’m not sure if it fits your brief but I stayed at the Banyan Tree last time I was there. The rooms are very very nice, breakfast superb and the rooftop restaurant and bar are excellent. I felt it to be surprisingly good value.

Great idea! I've booked it, with a tabel reservation on the roof.

Just nosing at the Banyan Tree's website, and this popped up, dunno if it affects your stay,

Haha indeed - reason being - we are only doing a little over 2 weeks - so the inflated cost of Thailand (vs India) doesn't matter nearly so much, PLUS, I've gone balls to the wall on this one, All top end villas / beach front etc. Gotta spend it before you die! ;-)

Also I miss TH of course, and all that entails - food, culture etc. Just hope the Ruski factor hasn't got much worse.
