Recently sold my weekend car and been thinking about a 981 as a stop gap.

Is my memory shot, I seem to remember a year ago there being plenty of decent cars (3.4) in the high 20s and lots of 2.7's in the low 20s?

Now it seems to get anything nice its well into 30k - nearer 40k?

These are 10 year old cars?

This is well into Gen 2 997 money.... have they always been like this?

Yes I noticed that too. At 718 levels. I noticed Gen 11 987’s gone up too.

I presume the market has moved then since I last looked. I appreciate the classic / super car market has gone up recently but did not expect it to be effecting the likes of the Cayman. Suppose last of the 6 cyl will always be desirable... but some of these are not far off list price!

Don’t know where you’re looking, here’s a stack of 981s from around £20k…?

If you have the autotrader price tracking add in it seems a lot of these have been cut as well, e.g. 13% off that last one over 4 months of sitting. I’d say the general direction of prices is down.

They are also not the last six cylinders lol, don’t forget the 4.0 GTS 718. Fantastic car just needs a bit more budget..

No In 2008 I bought a 30 month old 987 for £20'500. The prices now for 10 year old cars is insane!

Remember £20,500 in 2008 is worth approximately £35,503.95 today.

In 2016 I bought a 2013 981 Boxster with around 13000 miles from Porsche Leeds for £35K.

Looking around a 2013 981 Boxster with low miles is still around £35K

£35,000 in 2016 is worth approximately £49,507.21 today.

Alternatively: An amount of £35,000 today (in 2026) has the equivalent purchasing power of approximately £24,743.73 in 2016.

One with high mileage and the other two sound a bit rough judging by the adverts.

The best cars are increasing in value I’ve noticed tbh and they don’t seem to sit about, anything being reduced is being reduced for a reason.

Some 981 S at Porsche a couple of years back for late 20s with decent spec and low miles.

718 2.5 S cars with 20-30k miles were also £30-36k and lots of cars to chose from, nice colours and decent spec cars were all around that £33-36k mark.

The 981 S cars were a good £5k or more cheaper.

Probably still got some saved in my saved cars on Porsche.

Cayman prices are holding up well, a few weeks ago there were cheaper 991 Carreras for sale than 981 Cayman S's.

I think people seem to think maybe a Cayman will be cheaper to run, fly under the radar a bit more if things get tighter? Or maybe people are just preferring them?

It is really annoying as I really fancy one. Haha

Not got any 981's saved.

But how much is a 718 S with 20 odd thousand miles and decent spec on Porsche approved now?

This car was ridiculously well specced. and low mileage albeit a 2.0......

It's an interesting point. I bought a manual Boxster 981 S about 10 months ago..With PASM, a sports exhaust, android auto mod and some subtle wheel spacers it really ticks a lot of boxes and tbh I can't imagine what I'd replace it with for anything like the money..?

I've owned TVR, GT4,Exige, etc in the past and whilst the 981s is no rocket ship its such a great balance of performance vs usability, modern vs analogue.. In recent years I've become less bothered about all out performance, probably due to getting a bit older, pot holes, cyclists, dash cams etc and so 981s now fits really well.. I have a Caterham to hillclimb and for the odd road blat but tbh it's rare that I'd choose it over the Boxster on the road due to the aforementioned reasons..The 981s is such a good balance..

I'd love a GTS or a Spyder but cannot see that they are worth repectively double or triple the S money..

I'm not trying to talk values up but to my mind they are under valued and with the demand for manual nineties/noughties performance cars at present + the lack of new models it doesn't surprise me that 981 manual prices are slowly rising.

TVR T cars are an option but a bigger commitment and Exige S3 start at nearly £40k so to my mind high twenties for a visceral flat 6 porsche with solid build, great noise, classic modern looks etc still seems a bit of a steal currently..

I've been looking at them too since I sold my weekend car but a lot of the cars for sale on AT/PH have been around for a while and some of the ones I'm being sent on the FB groups are asking top money for high mileage cars.
I'm only looking for a 2.7 manual but obviously if the right S comes along at the right price I'll take it.
The missus prefers a Boxster so I'm opening up to the idea of one of them instead as there seems to be more manuals around.
