This has got to be up every bloke's street biggrin

Finally found a house I like in Kent, but no garage. It's a new build with a reasonable garden for a new build.

I have a garage currently and it holds all my tools, bicycles, camping stuff, motorbike stuff, the usual. Lots of oily bits.

So ideally I'd like a shed to be up and ready before I move in as I don't want it all in a brand new house, new flooring, paint, carpets etc.

Had a quick look online last night and a bit shocked at the prices for a simple non B&Q 6ft by 8ft shed with delivery and construction.

And I don't believe it included prepping the ground.

A few years ago, OK maybe 15, I paid £600 to have one put up on a prepped concrete base in my then garden, but now I'm seeing £3000 yikes

That's half what my dad paid for his 3 bed house in Croydon back in 1970 biggrin

I was thinking a grand tops for someone to turn up, drop a few paving slabs then put the shed on that, hopefully in the week before I move.

Am I expecting too much? any suggestions, ta.

We are in Herts and local suppliers were pricey (although not sure what spec of 8x6 you are looking for at £3k). We've now 3 times just ordered via one of the various suppliers on Ebay who all seem to hail from the midlands and turn up and assemble the shed for you.

Build one. It's not difficult and you get to buy tools if you don't have them. Youtube will guide you every step of the way, and for the base I'd just whack it on concrete pads topped with concrete blocks.

Yeah you've no chance for a grand including ground works.

The cheapest Tiger shed 8x6 is £550. Slabs and mortar £100.

Is someone going to put it up for £350? Probably not. In Kent you are probably looking at double for the labour. Still not £3k.

And for base you have the plastic grids as an option - as an example

Proper concrete base lad. And get thee shed from a proper local supplier, heavy duty shiplap. Costly but it should last you a lifetime. Make sure it's big enough for a chair and a box of beer.

To add to your misery I doubt an 8x6 shed is going to be big enough, especially if you're hoping to store the motorbike in it as well!

I've got a 10x8 shed from Tiger, think that was £800ish a couple of years ago. I built a sub-base from some 2x4 and put this on some concrete pads, also gave it a couple of coats of Bedec barn paint so was probably £1k all in and still looks as good as the day we put it up.
