Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum bosses have removed mummies from display because of a lack of "informed consent" from the dead Egyptians. The items removed from the Glasgow Life-run museum include a coffin with the remains of the priest Nekht, a mummified right hand recovered from the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, Egypt ,and mummified male head and right foot. "Glasgow Life Museums’ draft Human Remains Policy proposes that human remains should only be displayed where there is documented and informed consent from the deceased individual or, in appropriate circumstances, their descendants."

Does seem a bit strange having human remains on display when you think about it.
I always said, until my mum died I had never seen a deceased person, but I guess I had as saw all the mummies at the Manchester museum years ago, I dont think we see them as people really, sort of like something from Scooby, a Halloween prop or just educational, its kind of macabre when you think about it
I can sort of see where they are coming from, say they decided to dig up one of your deceased relatives and put them on display, after a few years in the ground they would look much the same if you threw a few bandages on. I know nobody is around to object and to be honest, I dont really care either way but even if its 2000 odd or 20 years ago, the question is the same, if you hadnt consented would you want your corpse behind glass to be gawped at ?

Dear Museum Director,
The God's have informed me that you have disturbed my eternal rest and spirited my holy remains away to a temple of learning where my sleeping Ba is available for all worshippers to view.
In doing this thing you have ensured my immortality. I approve of this and give my consent to continue this worship.
Given under my hand
Nehkt

Anyone who (should) care(s) is long dead though so it does seem a tad odd to be concerned about consent.I always said, until my mum died I had never seen a deceased person, but I guess I had as saw all the mummies at the Manchester museum years ago, I dont think we see them as people really, sort of like something from Scooby, a Halloween prop or just educational, its kind of macabre when you think about it

Nothing surprises me when it comes to Glasgow City Council.
The city is a shambles.
Yes but we've got a Mandela statue now so it's all good. The city is a shambles.
Everything they do is a joke.
As I said, the city is a shambles.
