For no good reason I have the need to move from my 718 base to a 911. The 911 will be twice the price for similar age car but feel it now or never moment, that said the 718 has all the options I want and a great car.

Which one of these would be the best buy(or an alternative)? I want a 992.1

I feel both the colours don’t do anything for the car at all. There has to be better colours out there?

Good luck with your future purchase. I would love a 911, especially a 1980’s model, but prices for those have went crazy!

Not a fan of the rear end shape personally, i prefer the classic designs.
I love the grey colour though.

The simpler the car the better I say, as a long term ownership proposition. Try to avoid the Porsche Tax on unnecessary options.

I like the 2wd one. I dont see what 4wd adds to a road car apart from weight, complexity and cost. Unless you live up a snowy mountain.

If I was buying another one though I would pick the C2 over the C2S.

Definitely a 992.1 over a 992.2, as the hybrid system adds weight and complexity. You also lose the traditional 911 ignition switch and analogue rev counter.

The C2 is a better road car IMHO.

The C2 has slightly softer suspension with a little extra clearance. You need it. It is still a very stiffly sprung car though.
I like the stronger 19/20 wheels with higher profile rubber and stronger non active engine mounts that wont fail on the non sports-chrono cars.
You also wont need to add the complexity of FAL as you have some axle clearance.

As far as power goes, you can still map the base car to 500 hp for not much dough, but I think its quick enough as it is.

And of course, a C2 will be cheaper to buy that a C2S probably.

If I was tracking it, I would probably go for an S because the brakes are larger. The non insured risk of a 992 on a racetrack would put me off tracking it though!

Whatever you choose I would strongly suggest getting one with the proper Porsche warranty.

Thanks for the info, I’m surprised there isn’t a bigger gap between the S version and base. I wasn’t too concerned about SC but now I have it on my 718 I think I’d want it on a 911. I won’t be tracking the car so if a decent base comes along I’d consider it, I’d want the extended leather option though as it make the car feel more premium.

Ones with a Porsche warranty is at such a premium, I didn’t bother with the warranty on my 718, the cost of it plus compulsory dealer servicing made too expensive for me, I have a fund to pay for any repairs. I’d like to think the 992 is just as reliable as the 718..might be wishful thinking!

I understand, especially looking at the leggier 992s because the dealers don’t tend to stock them.

But the number of times I heard “that’s an engine out job” was significant. To me it just felt that a £10k bill could quite easily pop up but it’s always a gamble.

Certainly would avoid buying from one of those dealers…

Buy privately with a FPSH & existing porsche warranty and you’ll get a better car for less.

Do the 992.1’s still have the issues with turbo failures like the 991’s?

I’d go for the 4s for added security on the crappy weather. The 4 wd doesn’t really add any complexity & is well proven over the years.

Both PDK so check the maintenance, failures are expensive.

Nice problem to have but 4s for me.

Just remember that the turbos will go on a 991 and will cost £££££’s, then at some point they’ll go again.

I agree, mixed reviews of auto100 but they seem to hold a lot of stock, and the car they have does have full PSH.

Not many private sellers around, the ones that are, ask top money, more than some dealers.

The auto100 car has 5 previous owners, I’d be the 6th, I think it’s reflected in the price though. Not a big fan of alcantara and the rear wiper.

I’ve not heard of this issue, there was some issue with the turbo on the 4 cylinder but that was more it being stuck rather than need replacing.

Not that I know of. I believe there’s an issue with the wiring harness, which necessitates dropping the engine and that’s £10k.

I no longer have mine and having now been in a friend’s 991.1 with the NA 3.8 I’d be going that way. I really didn’t like the engine in my 992.

I did a lot of research before buying my 911 - and bought a low mileage 991.1 C4S. I am not sure I'd want anything more recent to be honest (which means turbos).

The turbo’d 991 do have turbo issues still, even the warranty replacements fail again

Ah well, just as we agreed a deal on the auto100 one they emailed just before I was about to leave a deposit to say they had sold it, odd as it had been on sales for while.

The difference in value between the two cars was £35k to change, I did a valuation on we buy any car and they had the difference as £26k, not that it matters much now.

I’ll keep the 718 as recently serviced and 4 new tyres last week. Ill probably sell privately as values se to have gone up on these.

No go on the other one? If it's any consolidation I think you dodged a bullet with that dealer there...
