I don't own an Electric Vehicle....But If I did....Practically every time I visit my local Tesco, which has four allocated spaces with chargers for Electric vehicles. A few and sometimes all of the these spaces are occupied by vehicles that are not actually being charged up. The accompanying sign reads 'Parking for Electric Vehicles Only'. but surely not for the lazy entitled sods that think these spaces are for them even if they are not charging their vehicle while shopping. If I owned an Electric vehicle I would be sorely pissed off, if I couldn't get onto a charge point, because someone thought owning Electric meant special parking ! (the block of spaces is near the Tesco doorway.

Are you sure, as most Tesco stores with EV charging points have signs that say this -

Anyway, back in the day the chargers at Tesco, along with many other supermarkets and retail parks, were free and they were always full of cars charging.

Now they charge an exorbitant amount and most are only 7kW chargers so very very few people will be wanting to charge because they don't want to pay the exorbitant price for the damn all amount of charge they can fill the car with in the short period whilst shopping, so it is pretty unlikely there is anyone actually looking to park and charge.

But if you are concerned then just mention it in store and those just parked there will likely get a £100 private parking charge, the same as parking in a disabled bay without a badge.

so what would happen for this situation?
electric car in a charging bay (not charging)
clear signage

I usually find a 'standard' parking space at the side of the Tesco car park, and walk past the square block of 4 EV designated parking places. sometimes the four places are empty. | presume the signage 'works' and non EV drivers avoid them. (similar to disabled places, and parent + child places) ( which are probably further protected by an unsaid moral code?).
I've seen EV drivers pull into one of these places, not hook up to charge, then entry the store presumably to shop. sometimes two or three of these spaces are being used for charging, sometimes just for parking. I don't own an EV, but if I did I would only park (if any spaces were available!!) if I wanted to charge my vehicle while shopping. The same way, I would only use the Parent+Child spaces if I had my son with me. I wouldn't use the Parent+Child spaces and make the excuse "I have a son, but just didn't bring him with me".......p.s. I don't have a son, so used an imaginary one for the example!

If the signs said 'electric vehicle charging bay' it would make everything a lot clearer.

I haven't seen a car being charged at a supermarket for at least 5 years. Just get rid of the chargers and turn them into trolley bays which most supermarket car parks seem to be a bit tight on.

I have recently got an EV and enjoy parking at our local garden centre right by the entrance, nearer than disabled and parent and toddler.
The bays say reserved for electric vehicles only .
There are no chargers.smile

I actually think it's appalling, but I have used it as my wife has just had a knee replacement and 6 weeks in she is walking carefully, so it's a nice bonus for a while.

And all because it will.... if they ever get round to it......be easier to run the cabling from the main building !!

Our local retail park has about 8 spaces marked for EV's but never bothered to install chargers, and quite rightly anyone uses them.

If the space has a working charger associated with it then I'll only park there if charging. If not then it's open season for anyone.

I was at the Trafford Centre super charger last week and next to me was an Audi. Thought it was a bit weird, then when I got out to unplug I noticed it was actually a Q7 Diesel!

Given its 95% full most of the day I am sure that went down well!

I don't understand the thought process behind doing this - I bet that Q7 driver
wouldn't dream of leaving his car parked for hours alongside at a pump in a
petrol station, so why would they consider it appropriate to do the same at
an EV charging station??

Some people think they're sticking it to someone when they're just being a knob.

The TC location is open to all EV's and has been for years, I've charged numerous non Tesla Ev's there, including our Audi.
