No German cheap to maintain executive sedan under 15k?
Discussion
Need a highway cruiser. Ideally executive sedan that will be 12-15k that I can drive mostly on the motorway and on trips in Europe.
For that money I can get a 2018-2020 ES 300h, a 2020 Mazda 6 or some type of Accord. The thing is I want to own the car for 5-7 years and put ~50k miles on it and I think a German car like a 5 series or A6 will just be too expensive as it will need at least 1 major repair - water pump or gearbox or something in the engine.
Also, due to everything becoming more expensive I think people are keeping their cars for longer and fewer are upgrading when the newer model knocks on the door, thus I am afraid some of the out of warranty German cars sold might have developed an expensive issue before they were listed an issue which the owner deemed too expensive to repair and wanted to give someone else the honour of sorting. This is the reason I prefer Japanese, buy there also is another big issue.
Despite my desire to drive and the excitement of exploring new places like France and Italy I understand that driving in foreign countries leads to a higher risk of getting involved in a crash. Thus I prefer a car that is safe. The issue with Japanese cars is they are usually lighter than their European counterparts and also the fact that I prefer to avoid SUVs (due to worse driving dynamics) makes me want to buy a car that is in the 1.8-2 tonne range, but few of the manufacturers that make cars considered reliable make sedans this heavy. I understand that a lighter car is more maneuverable yet a quarter a ton more in a crash can be beneficial as sometimes the opposite driver might not give me a chance to maneuver.
I am also open to non German European brands but unfortunately the likes of Volvo stopped manufacturing sedans altogether and I avoid electrics like the new EX90 which is more like a crossover as I feel like it I drive an electric every second I will feel like the battery will burst into flames.
