Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh train

Has anybody taken the train from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city or Vice versa. We are looking at spending 10days and stopping off a different destinations on the way. Does anybody have any recommendations

We did it earlier this year as a sleeper; but not stopping off anywhere. My advice; don’t take the top bunk!
