Hi hive mind.

Interested to hear if anyone is a qualified coach on here, (specifically in the business sense rather than life or nutrition or fitness!) Where did you get your qualification? Are you full time, self-employed, or other?

Equally, the other side of the coin. Any (aspiring?) powerfully built directors been coached? Useful? Pros and cons?

Cue the "it's all snake oil" comments, and whilst I'm sure there are a fair share who are, I think there's value in it.

I've read the book(s) and as part of my PDP attend a regularly action set facilitated by a good coach. I find it useful but not useful enough yet for me to consider building direct 1:1 sessions into my PDP. Candour and self reflection I'm finding to be more powerful, combining the two would be really powerful.

I suspect those one step up from me at CEO/Chair level do access coaching much more, at my level (C-suire but still direct report to the CEO) I still have a decent group of peers, hence the action learning set. CEO/Chair level looks like a lonier place to be operating from.

If I ever do go down the 1:1 coaching route I will be using some one based on recommendations from a peer whom I connect with versus just Googling the nearest/cheapest coach. It's a totally unregulated field, some of the topics discussed will be very personal and sensitive, it'll be hard to enter the safe space needed with a total random stranger.

Leadership defined the culture of any organisation, I cannot see how anyone can think any type of leadership development is 'snake oil', I do wonder how much leadership development our political leaders go through. I suspect they are of a certain personality to think it is 'snake oil' to reflect and be honest smile.

Thank for the response.
It's an interesting reflection on leadership defining culture and those leaders who feel it's snake oil could be the ones who could benefit most from it...
