The gearbox that they use aren't well known for reliability, gearbox oil cooler lines get blocked, coolant leak issues, random electrical problems, and of course, air suspension problems.

06 year onwards are a 'better' car.

That will change quickly if he buys that hehe

Can you still fill up with LPG at any petrol stations nowadays? I though those days were long gone

I am in no way knowledgeable enough to offer mechanical advice here

But it seems to me at that if you really want a cheap SUV you would want to open your search filters to include diesel and suffer any low emissions city charges you may encounter sporadically

Reduce the mileage a bit and take the upper limit off the age range

In other words the youngest lowest mileage example within budget and open yourself up to other makes that may be a bit more reliable

I did it myself and there are quite a few options actually

Can you get LPG easily around you, it is virtually extinct in Herts. I had a Romano kit on either my S80 or P38, worked fine. I once didn't seat the airbox correctly and it would cut out at junctions, apart from that it was good even though I was getting 9mpgs towing a caravan in my P38. And remember lpg is not as calorific as petrol, probably 80% vs petrol so £1 a litre is more like £1.20 and nor is it as powerful. Most people rip out lpg kits now.

2004 4.4 means the BMW V8. Walk away from it very fast.

Also, many years ago I was advised by a secondhand Range Rover specialist to avoid anything with LPG. His reasoning was that if you put an LPG conversion on one then you can’t afford to run it. If you can’t afford to run it then what else have you skimped on?

Judging by the 100% shed status of all the LPG converted ones I’ve seen over the years, I’d say he had a point.
