A very pleasant young couple moved in next door. Our two houses are very similar except theirs was largely unaltered. One of the first things they did was ask about our extension and how much it had cost. I told them, and the wife said, "Oh, no. If we had that sort of money we would have bought a much nicer house."

We had a visitor to the house to collect something, she came back 20 seconds later to ask a question, my toddler shouts MUMMY ITS THE FAT LADY AGAIN

Not with a toddler. No filter, and no ability to understand a filter.

We were at the Supermarket checkout when our eldest (he was about 4) asked very loudly "Daddy, why is that lady so fat ?"
She was standing immediately in front of him.

At a wake, a bloke I had fallen out with years before strode up to me, shook my hand vigorously, told me his name and asked who I was.

"You know me, Alan. It's Richard."
"No, don't know you."
"Yes, you do. We've known each other for years."
"No, don't know you."

I can only assume this was a hastily hatched plan to insult me and he hadn't thought it through. Behind him, his wife was dying a thousand deaths.

"Hello, Jane."
"Hello."

We had met any times and been to one another's houses. There were people around us who knew we were acquainted.

One more, "No, don't know you," and I started to laugh. I didn't mean to, I was surprised I did but what he was doing was so absurd. His intended public humiliation of me wasn't working and he couldn't back down. He could so easily have turned it into an awkward joke. But, no.

I did wonder about telling mutual friends he had dementia but, y'know, you don't, do you? He didn't, by the way.

Maybe he did have something wrong with him.

He didn't. Well, he was a narcissist. I suppose that's an ailment.

We had a bring your child to work day years ago, a colleagues daughter seemed very upset and tearful so we gathered round to see what was wrong as she went to comfort her, Mummy, where are all the clowns you said you worked with, said the tearful child.

We had a new fella start in work, email put around introducing him, I only have occasional cause to interact with him, and the 1st time was a bit awkward.

I put it down to new guy syndrome, few weeks later I had to talk to him I'm about something he kept calling me the wrong name, I politely told him my real name.

Few weeks later, same thing.

This went on sporadically until one day I heard his line manager call him...Bob.

The email put around introducing him called him Robert, so that's what I'd been using. Normally, this introductory email covers nom de plumes

He preferred Bob, once I started using Bob, we got on fine, and miraculously, he remembered my name from then on.

Why he eff wouldn't you just say I prefer Bob? Rather than all this passive aggressive nonsense.

I saw a rather rotund lady trying to get in to her car, whilst she'd been away someone had parked close up to her car and she was struggling to get between the two to open her door.

I shouted do you want me to get your car out, and as I was about to utter the words for the next half of the sentence "I'm slimmer than you" I realised the insult I was about to deliver and rather sheepishly walked away.

Bizarre how my two didn't and still don't have this issue years later.

My brother used to do that about people he used to know.
"Remember that guy you used to know, Steve wasn't it?"
"Don't know who you are talking about"
"You know Steve you even went on holiday together, look here is a photo with you two together"
"No don't know who that is".
So glad I don't have to put up with that crap anymore.

About 10 years ago I came home in my new company car, a Citroen C4 Cactus, chosen because i liked the quirkiness and the low BIK. My previous co car had some minor damage where I'd been hit up the back and was due to be repaired, but my new car arrived before I'd got around to it. My neighbour was aware of the pending repair as we'd discussed it.

My neighbour (who had an Aston Martin) was on his driveway as I pulled up. He looked at the car and said "it's a bloody disgrace what these garages hand out as courtesy cars these days. I mean, what serious person wants to be seen dead in that".

To be fair, designed as a second car for the mums run, with the quilted bedding anti dent panels on the side, was challenging styling at the time.

Am I doing this right?

Sometimes when I see a car in a nice colour I think about saying 'nice colour' to the owner but wonder if this would be perceived as damning with faint praise.
