I was looking at a electric car, but I think buying a cheaper one (£10-12k budget) is to risky, most of my week journeys are no more than a 10 mile round trip, school drop off s etc. so thinking basic hybrid, I do not want a SUV!!.. so the Mercedes seems to fit the bill, but are they any good ?

or Suggestions

Automatic
Estate
0-60 under 8sec
decent size for 6ft'er in the back ( blooming kids keep growing taller than me!)
under 70k miles

Looked at a similar ask for my dad around 2 years ago. The Passat GTE came out well, the battery has a more useable range than the Merc but obviously a slower car. I seem to remember reading the mercs battery range drops from around 12 months old and Merc dealers thought that normal- I will say, I have no personal experience of the Merc, so that might just be internet hearsay

How tall are you? If you're 6ft+ as well then the C may not be for you.

They can suffer air suspension issues, other options.
The problem with all of those, except the passat is they'll be worth 50 in a couple fo years. the C holds its price better.... alternative doesnt need to be electric phav , could go down the diesel route.

They're actually now depreciating at a similar rate with the Mercedes depreciating worse initially hence they're all now similar money.

At 12k I'd be looking for a good diesel option especially if your usage suits a diesel.

C350e, 300H, 330E, tread carefully. Hybrid battery replacements are the main issue with these cars, hence the low price.

Look at a Tesla, the VW GTE, Audi Etron, or a Toyota/Lexus.

Can you provide some sort of evidence for your claim? I'm sure those batteries are expensive, but I can't find anything that states those cars in particular have any sort of specific set of issues.

And given the etron really is plagued with clearly known problems, what that's being recommended for I just cannot fathom.

you can't put any tesla/vw product in the same list as toyota for reliability.
