Simple Q: what to do about this?

It looks to me like the clear coat is flaking off the colour coat. Can it be repaired? DIY or a chips away place? Or a body shop? The rest of the car isn't concourse standard, but I'd like it to look reasonable.

It's on an Elise, so fibreglass bodywork, but I don't think that's relevant.

All suggestions welcome, thanks.

Hi,

Have you got a wider image of where it is on the overall panel?

Yes its lacquer peel, its usually caused by UV light, and is also way more common on red cars, its where the clearcoat has come away from the layer beneath.

There isnt really a DIY long term solution, the only way to properly deal with it is sand it back and apply a new clearcoat layer over the whole panel, hence me asking which panel it is on.

In theory, if there is a swage line, or shape change nearby you could take the edge of the clear to there, but really it needs to go to a panel edge or you are creating a weak edge further down the line which will lift again, but its your choice.
