I have banked with First Direct since they opened and have little appetite to change, but........

Up until today their 'First Directory' gave me/us worldwide travel insurance, breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance for £12/month

The best replacement I have found online is the above Nationwide account
I have looked at separate cover for travel and breakdown and its cheaper than buying them separately, the mobile phone Im ambivalent about however did claim with FD a few years ago so seems wide to keep it

I have minimal desire to switch all of my banking to Nationwide, however it looks like I can just open the FlexPlus account to get the benefits for £18/month for the 2 of us without having to either deposit my salary or spend a set amount of cash each month. All I need to do is transfer the monthly fee

Am I missing anything?

And is there anything better?
I also have a Monzo account however covering us both would cost a bit more and I have heard good things from friends claiming through Nationwide

Cheers

We've had one for about 12-15 years. It has slowly risen in cost. But when we started it was 9 or 10 quid and we were paying that for my wife's mobile phone insurance. She has claimed on that 3 times and its been OK. And we've claimed on travel insurance 4 times. I've upgraded the travel insurance A. for cruises where you need extended cover and B. for pre existing conditions. I am 70 next year so travel cover will stop for me but I think for an extra premium they'll continue it.
So it has been fantastic and saved us a fortune. Their banking is excellent as well.

open the account and transfer £200 or whatever to the account on each payday then transfer most of it back the day after or do what i do - instead of using main account for monthly cash/spending transfer that to Nationwide and then spend from that each month instead.

We have the Flex account mainly for the Euro Breakdown cover.

My 30+ year relationship with Nationwide ended abruptly earlier this year because they made one of my accounts dormant without telling me, cut the interest rate to pennies, and when I found out, they refused to make up the difference. fk 'em.

First Direct all the way, even if I don't get any freebies.
