i read a more detailed breakdown and he's flown to parts of the world and back again because of the seasons and visa issues etc. Amazing, but not unbroken journey.

On the face of it I thought it sounded amazing

But of the 28 years he's only been walking for about 13 and kept going back to Mexico, cos it was cheap?

After abandoning his 9 year old son to go and do it...

I'm no longer as amazed by him.

I read his wife left him.
But yes not the dad to be there, maybe some deep rooted mental health issues?

Pretty standard fked in the head veteran behaviour, I say that as one.

I can't imagine he's going to adjust well to settling back down in Hull, if that's even the plan.

Still an incredible journey.

Seems an amazing journey, although not quite as it sounds he seems to have many years flying backwards and forwards to Mexico. I think at one point he spent 5 years there.

Seems he does still get on with his son but has a 12 year old granddaughter he's never seen.

He said in an interview he wouldn't come home if his parents died and he didn't come home when his son nearly died in a motorbike accident. Admitted he's entirely selfish doing something like this.

It's an achievement but sounds a strange and troubled man.

Something fishy about this whole tale, American sponsors. Lots of flight back and forth to South America and Mexico from the USA.

A career of some kind as an ex Para broken by a walking and swimming odyssey to get back to Hull of all places.

Although I thought the Chunnel staff were mean as fk not letting him walk back through the service tunnels and instead having to swim the channel.

Perhaps his Nokia 6110 finally ran out of charge?

I thought it was slightly odd. I suppose it should have made more impression on me than that, but he seemed about as dispassionate as me in the parts of interviews I caught. Which was odd.

If you're the kind of person that seeks out walking around in Alaska and swimming the Caspian Sea then I can't imagine a media scrum is your natural habitat.

I imagine the media want him to be something he's not.

Most people would have a YouTube channel these days.

I think his wife and child left him and moved to Northern Ireland.

He was probably depressed and thought - Why am I staying in Hull on my own?

If his feet is not impressive, how about Nick Butter: The man who ran a marathon in every country in the world

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/55305942

I get some of the self-centred comments but the world does need people that look at situations and think: "I wonder if that is possible?"

Aspiring do do things that have never been done before or better or different rather than endless box-ticking following the crowd. "We do this beacuase it's always been done that way and that is what the process says."

"You can't come through our tunnel". "Stuff it! I'll swim the channel, then!"

The whole story seems like a PR push for a high achieving homeless deadbeat dad because someone gave him a book deal

No, I agree that one wouldn't expect him to be some kind of media performer - although he's not lived a hermit life, as others have said. But he's done some amazing things that you and I wouldn't dream about (well me anyway) yet speaks about them in an extraordinarily flat way.

It does have the whiff of the Salt Path to it so you may be onto something.

Probably come back for a couple of knee or hip replacements after all that walking.

I wonder how his NI contributions are going?

Because that was where he lived, and his Mum still does.
