A thread dedicated to forgotten rides with certain teams or cars by well known drivers, or perhaps a lesser known driver driving a well known car or for a well known team. The concept of this community is based on the many fill in drivers we have seen over the years in all forms of motorsports.

I'll start with an obvious one, Nigel Mansell driving for the works Ford team for three meetings in the 1998 British Touring Car Championship.

Driver: the late Paul Newman.

Built for him to race in SCCA "B Sedan" series. Although It's unclear if it ever raced.

See any number of BTCC drivers over the years doing Bathurst in Oz, think it was ‘91 or 92 that Jeff Allam was racing a Sierra in that race.
But certainly Cleland and Plato raced over there at the same time as Cleland famously rolled his Commodore when he clipped a touring Plato.
Matt Neal ruffles a few feathers when he was overtaken on the pit straight, then passed them into Hell Corner and caused a pile up in the rain one year

If it got as far as a test then it counts.

In memory of the recently deceased 1980 World Champion Alan Jones

He made a brief return with Arrows in 1983.

DNF'ed from fatigue after 58 laps at Long Beach, having qualified 12th, but he did finish 3rd in the non-championship Race of Champions at Brands Hatch.

More on-topic though.

Before the Maki days Tony Trimmer got to the fringes of F1 with Team Lotus in non-championship F1 races.

Here at the RoC at Brands in 1971.

.

Scalextric made a model of the 72 (but forgot to tell Tony).

Having been fired by Ferrari at the end of ‘91, Alain Prost secretly tested the Ligier Renault JS37 at Ricard in January ‘92. Wearing Eric Comas helmet as a disguise, he was something like 2 secs a lap quicker than regular driver Boutsen.

Actually your post about Moss was on-topic.

Speaking of Moss...

He drove a Mayfair Volkswagen Scirocco in the 1980 Willhire 24 Hour race at Snetterton, winning the Up-to-1.6 Litre Class and finishing 6th outright.

Tom Pryce in the Chequered Flag Stratos, Tour of Epynt, 1976.

I know because I was there..

It didn’t end well & Dave Richards still has the scar on his knee to prove it.

A privateer Ferrari in an F1 race.

Enzo loaned out a 312T to Scuderia Everest in early 1976.

That year Giancarlo Martini drove at the Brands RoC, it was a typically cold Brands day. Giancarlo was vigorously warming the tyres up on the formation lap when he lost it and dumped it into the Armco relatively adjacent to my feet.
