A rat chewed the wiring
Discussion
I had airbag light come up on my 23 vw id4.
After taking it to the dealers they said it is rodent damage and wont cover it under warranty

I am normally good with vehicle wiring etc..but never touched srs airbag system.
The plugs etc are fine. It just needs wiring repair. The dealers also said they will not replace the loom just do a repair. They want £360 to do it.
Can i solder it and do this myself? Anybody fixed airbag wiring before in the B pillers?

Was there any rat droppings?
Not that they said. I had a look myself when got the car back but its dark. Cannot see any droppings.Just baffling how a rat got in chewed all then went on its way. Sounds extremely odd. Apparently these new cars use corn type covers on wires now..which attracts rodents.
In my 30 years of driving never had this issue happen before
I'm very surprised that a VW dealer has suggested a repair on such a safety related element.
Usually it's replacement only and that would normally cost a fortune due to the work involved in stripping out such a large portion of the wiring loom.
Once done you need to make sure that the little beggars don't do any further damage.

The plugs etc are all fine. Looks like just need to reattach the wiring and cover up the bare wire has been eaten away.Usually it's replacement only and that would normally cost a fortune due to the work involved in stripping out such a large portion of the wiring loom.

What suprised me is how them 2 plugs look like they have been cut. Dont look like rodent did that.
I wonder if the rodent chewed other wires and dealer just cut thee wires to the plugs to just increase the claim
It looks like the wires have been crushed and trapped. How would a rat get into that area of the car ? As asked above are there rodent droppings. Did the rodent have wire cutters and snipped off the two plugs ?
You can see where I am coming from , the channel those wires run through is small but not accessible from outside the car .
Does the rodent have a key ?
I left the boot of my car open in my garage and mice got in , they didn't eat any wires thankfully, they did make a nest . They also leave poo everywhere and the smell from the urine is strong and easy to detect.

I just have to fork out and pay for it. I will be asking for full video evidence of the repair and i will inspect it myself.
Looks to me them to plugs with loom have been cut. But other wires do look like rodents been at them. So i dont know.
Sht situation to be in.
