Following on from my previous quest, I'm looking to remove the black plastic front from a Pioneer CD/radio to try and create a plate over the too large hole in the dash.
I'm thinking the 4 small "Phillips" screws and the front will come off? Don't need to remove the unit itself, just the plastic front. Any one able to confirm please

I think you're best to remove the head unit and try to do what you want on a bench.

But I'm not going to go doing shovel work around the forums to find out, so what's the underlying issue you're wanting to deal with?

hi Dave, been trawling the internet for videos, seems like the surround is separate and should just pop off? I was looking and thought the surround was part of the unit itself. Will head back out in the cold for further investigation. I'm wanting to mask or fill the gap down the right hand side and across the top.

In my experience, yes, most single DIN trim surrounds are clipped onto the body of the head unit itself, as they block access to getting the tools down the side for removal, but it can be annoying trying to figure out where the clips are.

However, it looks like yours may have a gap specifically for a removal tool either side, and so could be a one piece moulding?

Yes I've two or three sets of removal tools couldn't get the thing loose. Must try harder (like my old school report)

If it doesn't work in a way that ties into what's already installed, is replacing the head unit entirely a viable option?
