Cerberus sculpture....

Back in 2000 I bought a fabulous silver-plated sculpture of a tiger by a sculptor called Brian Elton and toyed with the idea of commissioning Brian to make me a Cerberus. <br/> <br/>My [then] partner, also a brilliant sculptor (her "Autumn" is in Kew Gardens), said she would like to do the sculpture. <br/> <br/>Kate Dixon's Cerberus was displayed on the piano in the VIP lounge of the 2000 TVR Motor Show stand. I've got one on my desk and it's been a talking point for years. Peter Wheeler bought one too. <br/> <br/>

No, not selling mine!
They are available though. I just thought that with Cerbera production ending ...10 year annivesary ...a few PH'ers might like to know these exist.
It's a fabulous thing, good provenance too. They start at £1500 for the cold cast aluminium one (pictured). More info at www.katedixon.com

Bloody ell. Unless its about four foot long where's all the money being spent! I smelted some aluminium into a mold the other day. Bit of old motorcycle casting and produced a very fine splodge which if you whittle if down for a few days on a lathe turns into a rather tasty piston for a stirling engine.
Call me a souless philistine, but £1500 is a top of the range suspension system or two emeralds.
Seeing as I can't mount it on the front of me car any more; some government legislation about not being able to skewer the walking dead. I fail to see how she will sell many to us tight bunch of Cerb owners

Appreciating art is a whole new ball game... my fathers neighbour bought a sculptured fountain a few years back, payed just over 200k for it!
Bloody hell, thats a Lamborghini parked in his garden and a Sagaris too.... lol

I could never justify that amount of money on an ornament but if I could I would 
While I appreciate the point above, I look at it as "only the price of some suspension bits" or a service. In fact it's less than a single Penske shock absorber, or the price of a couple of sets of slicks (we used to use at least 13 sets of tyres a year in the Tuscan Challenge).
£1500 isn't expensive for a sculpture of this calibre. The labour involved in casting and hand finishing this kind of stuff is intensive. There isn't a pile of them on a shelf, they're all made to order.
Art's a personal thing, if you don't see the value in it, that's your prerogative. Personally I'm a big fan of serious talent and art becomes part of our history. It's a noble profession and one worth supporting when we can. Cynical stuff like that of Emin, Hurst and Gilbert & George passes me by. They're taking the p*ss IMHO and not leaving much of a legacy compared with other periods in history.
In Kew Gardens there were at the time (maybe still are) only three artists with permanent works. Palozzo (sp?), Dali and Dixon.
Seems odd to me that Harry Potter fans are more likely to see value in Cerberus than owners of the £50K sportscar that inspired it.
Funny old world!

Surprisingly I totaly agree, art is history... like buying a rolex watch and keeping it with you for the rest of your life.
Phil, problem is, the harry potter fans dont own a cerbera so they got the cashflow... cerbera owns already used up their cashflow to own the cerb... lol

1500 isn't that much, was my 1st thought. Amazing folks don't see that. It isn't just dropping some metal in a mould . . .
Do not agree on the G&G thing. They are truly artists that make statements.
Say anything you want about BH's art: she taught me to look.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . . . I always thought Yves Klein was a nutter painting his blues . . . until I saw one dans le centre d'Pompidou: it blew me away and . . . don't get me started.
