Strolling to the Tube this eveing, I espied three of the Met's finest (one a motorcycle cop ... TonyRec?) closely examining a vehicle they had stopped. The driver was politely restrained by a female poloce officer whilst the driver of the battenburg drove the "suspect vehicle" forward a few yards. I guess there was agood reason to stop the vehicle.
Just a few yards back, however, two CoLP had ignored a cyclist with no lights (it was about 19:30) who blatantly rode through a red light and past pedestrians crossing on a green man. I pointed this out to them and asked what about "Atrium" - an initiative to book cyclists for such actions (and for riding up one-way streets the wrong way, etc.).
One looked at me blankly and shrugged. His oppo said, "Not a lot we can do, sir." and shrugged himself.
'Nuf sed!

Had this in my probationary days Streaky.
Man on bike no lights, round the corner to go to Smiths Docks, South Bank ignoring a Halt Sign.
Keen young DVD steps forward shouts stop and shows a high five.
Cyclist, wobbles around the bulk of DVD, raises backside, lowers head, farts twice and off like a shot.
Foolish DVD breaks into a canter and quickly realises no chance.
Sounds like those Met Boys had some heavy indictable offences so summary offences take second stage..... well done Tony Rec....

Seem to be seeing more BiB on push bikes these days - seen quite a few in Liverpool & Manchester recently. All in favour, good visibility, relatively quick to get about town & I've seen a few bike bobbies obviously feeling collars which is usually a good thing...
Always seems to be the younger Officers though for some strange reason!
Not that
would have any part in that of course!

I heard that there were cycle-mounted plod issuing tickets to light-running or unlit bikes.
Used to be £24 a missing light in my day -- and £30 for going the wrong way up Trinity Street at 5 in the morning to get to the boathouse.
