GT3 Mk2 - do they all have light flywheels?
Discussion
Can someone tell me if all Mk2 996 GT3's have the light flywheel?
It seems that on the Mark 1, the Clubsport package includes the lighter flywheel, with the Comfort spec having a heavier flywheel.
I thought that on the Mark 2, both Clubsport and Comfort spec had the lighter flywheel. Is this correct?
My reason for asking is that the throttle response on my newly-acquired Mk2 seems quite leisurely when you blip the throttle.

A single mass flywheel can be easily retrofitted to a Mk2. I've had this done when I changed my clutch.
About £1,500 all in (including new clutch). Shifts better.

Stefan,
How much difference does this make, i'm considering getting a Quaife one, don't think i need clutch changed yet though. Worth the money ???
Any downsides ??

They rattle when idling (can sound a bit like a diesel). Clutch also requires a little more precision, but really nothing very noticeable.
I've heard mixed reports about whether or not the map should be different to compensate for the lack of flywheel. The RS has a different mapping...
The most noticeable thing is that gear changes aren't as smooth going up through the box as you have so little inertia in the engine, as soon as you hit the clutch the engine slows before you get the next gear. Not great for passengers, but fine in the pilots seat. If I can get faster with the box, hopefully I can compensate a bit.

I think you'll find that although the RHD MkII CS did not have the SMF, the LHD version did, and, no, I don't know why.
Not the US delivered cars - all the guys on renntech are running around fitting them retrospectively - are euro LHD different?
