help with samsung phone download
Discussion
i am trying to get my photos from my samsung mobile phone onto my laptop using the cable provided and for some reason it wont connect. it is saying that there is a modem problem.
i have done this before in exactly the same way so i dont know why this time it is not connecting to it.
i have tried checking everything and as far as i can tell everything is fine.
i really need to do this asap as getting new phone and want to keep my old phone photos.
any ideas??

Ummm, some more specific details may help. Which port does the cable connect to on the laptop, and does the "modem" error come up on the phone on the computer?
I don't have a Samsung phone, but an Ericsson. When I transfer pictures, I have a choice of how to send them, ie by infra red, blue tooth, usb cable, etc etc. Is your phone trying to send them using the correct method?
Are you using a serial connector on the laptop which previously used to have a modem connected on it, hence the modem error? Can you not transfer the pictures using infra red instead on this occasion until you get your new phone?
Let us know some more specific details!

No ideas about connecting to the PC i'm afraid. My one and only foray with trying to get a Samsung phone to talk to a PC nearly resulted in a smashed phone and a smashed computer.
I got it working but swore never again, and got a sony ericsson!
I'd use bluetooth between the two phones to get your photos across, leave the PC out of it.

I assume it is the PC saying that there is a modem problem? Probably because XP recognises the phone as an alternative method of dialling out (my pc used to do this with my nokia).
Have you tried just "pushing" the data from the phone (on my ericson I can just tell it to push files and all it asks is the method - bluetooth, IR etc.)?

thanks for the replies
i dont have bluetooth on this phone so i cant send them via bluetooth and i am using the cable that came with the phone which goes into the com1 port at the bk of comp.
it then comes up on the comp screen that there is a problem with connecting vis the modem, but i didnt have this the last time i did it.
can you send via infrared to comp???
thanks for all your other replies

If it's a laptop then you can infra red from the phone to it - if not then not likely.
