Question, I have been invited to a track event at Llandow in Wales by a friend, but has anyone ever been there, if so what is it like?
Does anyone know who sells insurance to cover me for the day and what should it cost?
It is costing us £65 each for the whole day, and there will be an assortment or about 20 cars and bikes going, never been before and quite looking forward to it this Friday.
All are welcome to join us, but I don't know what it is like or what to expect, it sounds cheap though!

Small and flat with limited run-off in a few areas. Good surface except for a bit of a bump right in the braking area at the end of the main straight. I've been a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it and found the ciruit owner and staff to be very friendly and relaxed. One note of caution but, in the early sessions watch out for cars going straight on at the end of the straight rather than going round the 'bus stop'.
For insurance have a look at www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/

Jim

Thanks for your reply, phoned the insurance company this morning, and they are emailing me quotes.
Is LLandow a racetrack or an airfield ?
Thanks again

Nick

It's a track. It's licensed to run sprints, not sure about actual races. When is the trackday & who is organising it ?

We are going this Friday 15th November, and it is costing £65, it seems good value for money.
I am told that we can go around the track as many times as we want, and all day long.
The chap that is arranging it is called Russell Hennessy, he owns a car paintwork company, he also races in the Westfield challenge, so it is practice day for him.
Looking forward to it, if I can I will take a camcorder and post the results on this site.

Domster, have you been on any trackdays yet with the RS? Do you think you'll be doing it reguarly enough to warrant putting up with the lack of comfort in your RS day to day?

I will track the RS at some point, but trackday insurance and noise regs cause more of a headache for me at the moment than the inclination to do so.

It is a bit impractical for eveyday use, but not massively so. I still use it for commuting, although that is mainly motorway miles.

Remember, it is far less compromised as a road car than many road cars are as trackday cars! Look at Steve Carter's E46 M3, brakes and gearbox weren't up to track use. Even the GT3 has questions asked over its brakes on track. The point is that an RS was really a Cup racer, designed to compete for a whole series. Not just some tooled up production car designed for the yuppies. It can take the abuse of kerb-hopping, hard braking lap after lap without fade, yada...

"Even the GT3 has questions asked over its brakes on track"

No question, they're hopeless, even on the road. There is an addon cooling duct system avaiable.

I've found the solution to driving the Cup Car on the road -ear defenders!! Made a 30 minute trip upto the Ace Cafe bearable last week.

Trackday insurance? If it is yr second car, try AON on 01483 706068.

Noise? 105db wil only rule out Combe, Goodwood ten car day and Thruxton. A Merlin silencer replacing the tailpipe will knock 2-4db off.
