944 turbo track car - advice needed
Discussion
Hello all,
After having a 944 a few years ago and absolutely loving it I'm thinking of returning to the fold and get another as a track car. I'd like to go for a Turbo and have seen a few at around the 3 grand mark at reasonable high mileages (circa 150k).
Having seen normally aspirated 944's crack 200k with no problems what can I expect with giving a high mileage turbo engine some stick on a track?
I was thinking of making some sensible mods, brakes, strut brace, suspension, cage etc - would it be worth making any to the engine (chip etc) or would I be asking for trouble?
Thoughts welcome
Cheers

LHD is good as it saves a few quid, which you can use for mods. I had one for just this purpose and should have kept it really. If I'd done some of the mods you suggest it sould have been fantastic, even without them it was great.
I sold mine at a profit and still only got a bit more than 4k. It had 130k on it but ran great - chipped, reshimed gate and 270 bhp on the RR at AMD.
Personally I would prefer an ABS car - but thats 'cause I'm rubbish and it did save me on a number of occasions.

A well maintained one can take plenty of abuse on track, they are built like brick outhouses, and apart from regular oil, brakes and the occasional suspension component there's not too much to worry about.
My own Turbo has clocked up 50k miles in three years including about 5 trackdays a year and two trips to the Nurburgring. It took all this in its stride until a bolt came loose in the airbox and destroyed the turbocharger :O , apart from that I think it would have gone on for years. It shall soon return after a rebuild
I know several other 944T owners who regularly track their cars and have over 150k on the clock. Just bear in mind that when things do go wrong it will be expensive, it's a Porsche after all, luckily it will take a long time for that to happen.
