Been thinking about getting one of these for - well about as long as I can remember. How much would I need to pay for a first class one these days, and is it still likely to cause me trouble? Really can't be doing with dodgy bodywork or constant hassles. What's the chances of getting something relatively trouble free - and equally important, where from? Advice from past and present owners gratefully received.

Nick Cartwright is a bit of a Dino specialist. He's also very helpful, so I would have thought putting a call in to Nick well worth your while www.nickcartwright.com/ He has only one at the moment, on at over £70K which seems to be at the upper limit of the range. Not that I've looked but the range seems to be £40-70K.

£50K will buy you a really nice useable car without the paint blemishes etc that you dont want.....they are a little fragile bodywise though, I know of cars that are used regualary that are on their 2nd or 3rd restoration....everybody should own one in their lifetime...

Funny you should mention that one. I'd seen that one myself and thought it looked expensive, which is what prompted the original question. Concours imposes some reponsibilties I'm not sure I want. i.e keeping it like that, or losing value.

Are you looking at a GT or GTS? I have a GTS which cost me just over £60K Two years ago. The GTS fetches a premium of around 5K over the GT.

I`m also strongly considering one of these, I`d want a GT rather than a GTS and although its not important I would need it to have the perpex covers!

I don`t think that I could stretch much further than around £50K though - does this buy a genuine good`un or do you really need to go north of this? I`m not interested in concours and the like and am happy to do some mild tinkering - car would be a 4/5K a year user.

Lee Maxted Page has (had?) a lovely GTS with Daytona seats for sale recently. I've seen the car and it's been restored well.

I bought mine from Foskers at Brand Hatch. They gave me a years warranty (verbal) and in the first year fixed numerous minor problems FOC. the second year has been largely problem free. I am very pleased with the car and having driven some modern F'cars and other supercars, feel that the real world experience of a Dino is almost second to none.

To me though the GTS is the one to go for - the noise is glorious andit is so much more raw at sensible speeds.

Last time I was in KENT HIGH PERFORMANCE (maidstone) approx 3 weeks ago, they had 3. One was a minter, one was mr average and lastly one in need of the usual body work. I'm not sure of the prices as I wasn't looking for these, but when you see one you just HAVE to have a nose around.

They are probably listed on their web site.

Undecided. Like the lines of the GT, but the noise/open experience of GTS is appealing too.
£75k for a GT (Nick Cartwright) seems a bit heavy to me from previous comments. Wonder why that one is so expensive?

I dont know why - probably close to concours, but Nick Cartwright does have a very good reputation.

Doesn't Nick have a large private collection of 246/206 too?
