I was told that initially my Tuscan S (and probably all other TVR's) would come with a normal NON-synthectic oil installed e.g. Castol (Apparantly it helps the running in), but that this would be changed to Mobil 1 at the first service. Well I've had the 1000mile service but no mention was made of Mobil 1, instead the invoice shows 5ltr of Mobil Super 15W/40. Is this right? Is this a synthectic?

What do other people use?

Russell,

That is right. Mobil 15w/40 is semi-synthetic and that's what is recommended between the 1k and 6k services. After 6k you go onto fully synth.

Much debate about which one to use at that point. I'm using Castrol RS, which seems fine. Handbook calls for Mobil 1. Current factory recommendation is, IIRC, Triple R.

Go for Castrol R. By far the best oil for speed six engines so I am reliably informed by the experienced mechanic who services my car...

Castrol R 10W 60, do not use Mobil 1 0W 40!

The "thiner" the oil (e.g. 0-40), the more possible to get burned(the oil...)and not good lubrication in high temperatures(except if it's competition[racing] oil). But, less friction on the motor parts when it is cold.

Also in high compression ratio engines , better not use "thin" engine oils.

Conclusions:
Use more than W10 50 on
