Single seater racing

I know it's a little off topic for the forum, but have any of the assembled Nobility ever dipped a toe into the world of single seater racing? I'm interested to know what your experiences were and how you found the step up from trackdays to 'real' racing.

I'm thinking DACS ARP F3 specifically.

I'd never given it much thought until I saw a superb Lotus 20 single seater in the corner at Vegantune - really got me interested in "arrive-and-drive"!

I raced and instructed at CC for a number of years, FF1600, and had the pleaseure/agony of having a test in a Boiling point F3 car, tight squeeze getting in and out and jesus, completely different to drive slicks and wings, i had to have a bit of a rest after a 15 minute test session at Brands, that swas before i could even get out bloody quick mind you !!

I've driven in anger against others, but never out and out "raced" in a series, Formula Palmer Audi SS many many times.

It's a hoot, and just soooooo much faster than the Noble ever could be that it is rather adictive.

I don't have the time or the committment (nor really the interest) to do the full racing, although I do have a serious number of Jonathan Palmer FPA winner plaques, and the odd cup or two, on my work windowshelf....

Raced karts as school boy and had a go in open wheelers but a lack of funds and talent were always a big disadvantage. Whilst I can now address the former the latter is still an issue and seems to become a bigger problem as I get older, Its nearly 20 years since I was last on a track so Rockingham will be interesting. A hightened awareness of ones own mortality does not help.

If you fancy it have a go otherwise you will always regret it.

But beware there is a hugh differnce between a tootle around a track and a full on race. There are many people who are quick on a track but there are few who can really race

Raced 100 and 125cc Karts for near on 11yrs. Fun but frustrating at times, then again it would be racing against Dan Wheldon and Doug Bell, but it kept me fit. I suppose you are aware that it will take over your life, cost you lots of money & batter your body to bits. Seriously though go for it if you have the bug :-)

I prefer to stick to Grand Torismo and Forza Motorsport on the old X box.

Thought about doing a season in van diemens a few years back but it looked like £20k + for a season and that did not include and bumps, which I seem to be good at attracting!

Still intend to do some racing one day.

Am currently stripping out a friends old Rover 214 and installing a rollcage, so we can take it "bump" racing. Its like banger racing but with only pushing rather than crashing into each other.

Should be fun!

Zetec's expensive - i raced kent and its a damn site cheaper !!

Even though saying that a full season of FF1600 could cost you that with a top team (hired)
