I am spending the weekend in a cottage with my family in Newbury, Somerset.

Any one know of any nice pubs , or fun stuff to do / nice places to visit round there so I can impress my family with impromptu local knowledge?

edited to add:

PS: my family is my dad his wife, her kids and their kids, my sister and her husband and their kids etc...

I am single...sniff.

I'm fairly familiar with Somerset, but can't say I know of any 'Newbury'...

...just looked for it on 'streetmap.co.uk' and the only place of that name in Somerset is a collection of about six houses, between Frome and Radstock. Would this be the place?

More worrying is I am in that area 2-3 days per week and I havent a clue where it is.

You could have gone to Longleat. The bypass is good, but that is where I got my first and only set of points on my licence. To this day I don't know where the camera was.

Cheers guys, Unfortunately I left before most of you got a chance to respond, I should have posted sooner!

Did Longleat, the lions were asleep and a monkey shat on my dads car

Went to Kilmersdon and stopped in a pub with a skittle alley and went up 'jack and Jill hill', I didn't know it actually existed!

Went to frome...

Spent the rest of the time getting pissed and playing trivial pursuits in the cottage and watching the local peacocks climbing up to the unlikeliest of high places.

Not one family argument, which is a shame as they liven things up a bit, but all in all a nice weekend was had by all.

Not that I remember, but some of the weekend is a little hazy.
