Shocks, wheels & tyres

Well, it's that time of year again when the monster goes into the garage for a service, needs all sorts of things doing, and I get confused as hell! So a few questions....
If my rear shocks are "boxed", what does that actually mean (apart from "they need replacing")?
And why would the springs also have to be replaced?
And the old tyres thing (again).
I need two new fronts, have new Toyo T1-R on the rear (16" Z rated), so would like the same on the front. But I've only got 15" wheels, and Toyo don't do a Z rated 15" tyre.
But, there are some wheels for sale on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TVR-5-LTR-CHIMAERA-GRIFFITH-WHEELS-WITH-TYRES_W0QQitemZ4583889438QQcategoryZ108792QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) which just happen to match mine. So, could I buy them, put the 16" ones (with new tyres) on the front, and then try and flog a set of 4 15" wheels? Or would that just not work? Have read about offsets etc. but no idea what that actuall means...
Will obviously discuss this with the garage (who come highly recommended!) in the morning, but would appreciate your comments.

Toyo do (or at least recently did) a Z rated 205/55-15... was a 'special' for the TVR market and was originally available via Tiv dealers but I have bought at least one pair from a local pile 'em high tyre depot so they are (or were) available more widely too
The last Griffs had 16s front and rear but I have no idea on offsets although Ithink this was just because the supply of 15s had dried up so assume they are the same front and rear, unless the factory skimmed faces etc? Someone here will know for sure (or might be kind enough to measure)
