Glasgow - Advice needed
Discussion
I'm going to be in Glasgow for a Sat, Sun, Mon next month and am after some recommendations, firstly for a good but not too expensive hotel in the centre and also some places to go out. Priorities are;
Good Beer
Good Food
No trouble
Fine looking (but easy) wenches
Over to you guys....

Ashton Lane in the West end has a few really nice pubs, its easy to get there from the centre on the underground then a taxi back in at then end of the night.
The Merchant city in the centre is also really nice with some cool pubs and plenty of places to eat.
avoid green and blue when old firm are playing.
(remember being sat on the platform of high street low level with a bunch of celtic supporters singing down with english and up with the IRA and being glad ihad worn my green combats that day...)
beer - hmm... theres a couple of Hogheads near Red Squ.. sorry Georges Square - one just past Queens Street Station, and the other just of the North East corner of the square.
Waxy O Connors did ok chain pub style food - again a bit further down Queens Street - lookout for the flaming tourches outside the door.
Also the Counting House, south west corner of georges square. good beer in there - normally some guest casks (think its a weatherspoons pub)
futher afield - some nice spit n sawdust pubs out in Dennistun to the east and a few out in the west end along Byres Road.
out in the west end, the cobbled street behind Byres Road underground station has some nice restraunts, tho the area is rather studenty with the proximity of Glasgow Uni.
have look down some of the back streets around the Merchant City - again good backwater pubs down there...
and the 3 steps bar opposite Mark n Sparks by the bus stop.
some of this might have changed, been about 3 years since i was last there.

No probs......go over to Edinburgh

Here are a few suggestions. For more details PM me and I'll be happy to help you out.
For good beer Ashton Lane in the West End is one option. I would also recommend Bier Halle in Gordon Street (City Centre). The food is good there too. Room at the top of Buchanon street is also well good, nice chilled out place. The bar in the Radisson hotel has some great bar meals as well. Bar Soba is a good place for Japanese noodles and things like that. If you want an Indian try the Ashoka.
I'll edit this as I think of more possibilities.

An Englishman in Glasgow - you must be a hell of a good sprinter!
My advice: go out and enjoy the town but don't open your mouth. Actually a mate of mine went a while back and ended up in a bar. A friendly local advised him on no circumstances to sound English so he, and I must point out he is a real ponce, shouted at the barman "Aye, can ah hiv a pint o' heaveey an' a wee dram." Much mirth ensued but he got a better reception for trying.
They still kicked the living shit out of him in the car park afterwards though

Glasgow is a great city, and IMO you don't need to worry about sounding English. I moved up from Reading 8 years ago. I haven't lost my accent, but have never had any sort of comment thrown my way.
But you must head to Ashton Lane, it's a bit like Dublin's Temple Bar.
Merchant City is THE place for food, and some really nice London-esque bars.
Loads to do during the day here. All museums are free, and are actually very good. glasgow is a very cultural city which looks after it's visitors.
you won't find trouble unless you look for it.
As for birds; any club with a Q outside will be fine. Cube, Bamboo, The Garage etc.

Thanks for the replies guys. Some very useful suggestions.
Any ideas for hotels though?
Holiday Inn express is bang in the centre and rates are OK I think.
This gives you a list with prices...

Holiday Inn express
This place also has an NCP over the road where your P&J can get a good nights sleep.
Plus this is in Merchant City, so you can find some nice place for your breakfast, rather than the usual buffet they provide.
ETA: That Hotel

The Garage
Any chance of a link to this place? Is it close to the Holiday Inn?
It's in Sauchiehall Street, not very close to the Travel Inn mentioned above, but well within staggering distance.

Glasgow is great.
If you want a nice hotel try the Arthouse or Malmaison.
Resteraunts everywhere, I had a great meal in Red Onion recently just near Blythswood Sq.
go to Byres road on Saturday if you can just to get a flavour.
Re: the Garbage, underaged girls and binge drinking, if thats what you are after?

WARNING: It is very cheesy but if you go with an open (and intoxicated) mind it's a good laugh!! (and you'll almost certainly pull)
It's about 10-15 mins walk from the Travel Inn, or sub-£5 in a taxi.
Don't go expecting a super-club, but if you like your beer and dancing like a tw@t to really cheesy music, you'll have a ball!
