Broken Gearshift on S2 Exige
Discussion
Hi all,
This might be old news to you all now, but thought I'd let you know anyway.
A fellow PH'er friend has just emailed me and told me that a pal of his had suffered a broken gearshift on his S2 Exige. I've looked into it a bit and from the looks of things, the actual shaft running into the gear linkage (within the gear console) just snapped in half!
I had a look on another Lotus forum and there were a fair few reports of similar activity on both the Exige and Elise models.
From what I can gather, Lotus have known about this issue and have redesigned the shaft to be thicker and stronger on new/recent models. There are conflicting reports about how to tell the difference between the old-style and new-style shafts, with one suggestion being that the old shafts are hexagonal, and thinner when compared to the new round shafts.
As I say, this may all be old news to you, but I thought there was nothing to lose by mentioning it anyway. I shall certainly be examining my own S2 Exige in the near future.
Regards,
Adam.
