no more and no less reliable than an Elise. The only fly in the ointment is the engine. The VHPD is a bit flakey and might require rebuilds as they are basically a stressed 1.8 K series. Pushing 190bhp will take its toll and if you can make one last 30k miles, you are doing good. Other than the frekkin' engine and its foiables, the car is around the same costs as the Elise, tyres being slightly more expensive.

S1 and S2 Exige engines are poles apart. They get to 190bhp or thereabouts by very different routes.

S1 = highly modified and stressed engine tuned to within an inch of its life (slight exaggeration)

S2 = bog standard high-volume Japanese production engine, albeit one with some clever VVT technology.

S2 Exige should be much more reliable (I hope).

when did the first s2 exige roll off the production line ? was it april 04 ?

some of them must have done 40-50k miles by now.
