erattic temp gauge

Out and about yesterday ( 99 Griff 500) and the temp gauge decided it was going to stop working.Had a quick spin today and it worked for a few miles ( may of been slightly under reading about 65-70 )then decided to stop working again.Was just about to pull in and have a poke and a prod when it started working again and continued to work til I got home.Any suggestions?Keep it simple please !

Most probably the sender, mine did just the same. Rather than going through all the hassle of replacing it, use the spare sender on top of the head, a variable resistor(200 ohm) to calibrate and thats it,it will not under-read on a cold day and it will also be a lot longer lasting than the original.
