Wiper not parking

Can anybody know why the windscreen wiper won't park when switched off.

For starters check you have brake lights. They come off the same fuse (2).
Other things on same fuse are rad fans and choke so you may not have noticed.

The way the automatic park works is there is a contact that comes up off the main large gear in the wiper motor. That contact effectively makes a switch that will continue power to the motor regardless of whether the wiper switch is on or off, except for a tiny spot at the end (the park spot). In fact, when wiper motors are working correctly, for most of the rotation of the big gear the motor is happily powering itself. Its only when it gets to the small gap in the circular contact that power depends on the switch in the dash.

If the wiper just stops at a random spot when you switch it off at the dash, something is wrong with either the contact inside the wiper, or the wires that loop that back through to the motor. The plug has five wires... if you can get in under the dash, you could remove the plug, clean the contacts and try again. Also, make sure that unswitched ignition power is going to the plug (not sure which line it is). If there is no power there, then check the fuses because it might be that the dash switch and the motor circuit are off different fuses.

Also, you can break the wire that powers the motor, but if the dash switch wire is still good, the wiper looks like it is running just fine, but it always stops dead when you switch the dash switch off.

If all of that looks good, then it is most likely a problem with the contact inside the wiper motor itself. That might be repairable (I've not done it though on this particular wiper), but it will require that you remove the wiper motor.

Either that, or just get good at turning the switch off at the right point!

Hi mate. If you're free this weekend, I can show you exactly how it works before I put the dash bodywork on. Funnily enough, I don't remember the park function working on my GTR either (pretty sure it did though). As said above, the park function relies on 12V going to the motor after you switch off, to take the wiper to the park position. I have the relecant wire marked (Green/Brown IIRC) so that you can check.

The park supply to the motor is Green.
