Completely shredded the right rear so no chance of squirting some foam in. I was lucky the rim wasn’t damaged. Strange thing was I didn’t feel it go until it was shredded. No extra vibration or road noise then the car started pulling to the left. I pulled straight over to find I had a shredded right rear.

So there I am stranded on a motorway in Spain, not speaking any Spanish, 10 miles from home in the pissing rain and my mobile phone wasn’t working – great

Luckily I stopped by an exit next to an Ibis Hotel and the receptionist spoke English and was very helpful. Got the car taken on a flatbed (nice to hear all the passers bye hooting and people jeering out the window when seeing a Ferrari being loaded on a flatbed ) to a 24hr place in town but they didn’t have the tyre in stock and were quoting rip off prices to get it in for today.

So now the car is sitting in a tow truck depot in the middle of nowhere waiting for me to source some tyres  I’ve managed to get some off mytres.co.uk which I’m having shipped straight to the tow truck depot for fitting. It’s amazing the difference in prices quoted for a Michelin Pilot Sport 275/40 R18:

24hr Tyre garage in Barcelona 740 EUR
Ferrari Dealer in Barcelona 589 EUR
Manufacturers retail 432 EUR
Mytryes.co.uk 316 EUR

Now I just have to wait 7 days for the tyres to arrive and hope nothing happens to the car whilst it’s in storage.

I find this the most shocking point : Do I take it you live in Spain and don't speak Spanish? Shame on you.

I'm on a six month contract here for a US company obviously I've picked up a bit since I've been here but not enough to get out of the situation above.

Let you off then if you're only there for a few months. Good luck BTW (with getting car sorted rather than Spanish lessons!)

You B******!

Living in Spain that is

Good luck with the tyre. When I had mine down there in August I had to go to the local garage as the bumpy roads had shaken the battery loosed from it's mount, but they bent over backwards to help and refused to take any money, just cos it was a Ferrari! All it cost was some beer money and about 7000 revs for his phone's ring tone

Well the bad news is the tyres won't arrive until next Wednesday.

The good news is the garage aren't charging me for the storage.

Err... can't say I've seen it but I'm guessing they used the car for joyriding in the owners abscence?

I've had the same jibes from people in the office but seeing as the right rear is totally shredded at the mo they won't be going very far with it. I'll just have to make sure I pick it up ASAP once the new tyres are fitted.

Well I pick it up this evening. So I’ll find out

The car was ready on Monday but the colleague that took the message only passed it on today when I asked if a garage had phoned for me

Well got it back last night and the car seems fine except it’s filthy dirty from sitting in a warehouse for near two weeks.

So I don’t think they went joy riding in it. In fact I know they didn’t because of the 5 day old (small but noticeable) pool of hydraulic steering fluid underneath it and the flat battery . Half a bottle of Shell Donax and a jump start later and I’m hooning up the motorway back home

Best part of 1000 EUR for the tow and supply and fit two new rears though.
