Cat's eye cameras condemned

Top cop's suggestion slammed by inventor's niece

Say no to cameras here!
Say no to cameras here!
The idea of putting speed cameras inside road-centre cat's eyes has been condemned. The niece of Percy Shaw, the man who invented cat's eyes, said she believed it was wrong that the authorities should consider her uncle's invention, which she said saves lives, as a cash cow.

Glenda Shaw's comments follow suggestions from camera-loving chief police officer Richard Brunstrom that cat's eyes ought to be fitted with solar-powered cameras as a way of catching people breaking the speed limit -- much as they will soon be in Malaysia (see story link below).

Glenda Shaw said that her uncle saw cat's eyes as a way of helping people get home safely, not as revenue raisers.

What the hell I dont speed so this policy is totally ineffectual towards me, but hey wait a minute if that were the case for everyone then at some point there is going to be a big bill the Partnerships will have to pay themselves. or will they perhaps this is just another short term money raiding policy to fill a gap?

At least you'll be able to put a hammer down on it very hard, alot easier than climbing poles with fuel laden tyres!!

But still, probably the stupidest idea i've ever heard or seen. They better not bring it out over here, i think there's far more important issues they need to address than speeders.

This is nothing to do with speeding the short term objective excuse - the real hidden agenda is to get these in place along with all the other proposed surveillance technologies to monitor us all. The LTi 2-20 speed camera and the way it is being used should be a prime example as to why we need to be concerned when unaccountable ‘authorities’ that have free a reign to abuse their positions with the full backing of the law. These devices will be used to obtain more money from motorists and have little or no impact on road safety.

Unfortunately the goverment won't listen to Glenda's comments, or anyone elses for that matter. Their heads are full of the sound of falling money they'll make by using such devices.

well thats already happening. thats why they are slowly lowering speed limits on dual carriageways where the cameras are all well known and have falling revenues.

While i agree with the sentiments expressed here regarding the usage of such underhanded and greed driven tactics, im minded to ask you all a question:

What do YOU as individuals intend to actually DO about this?

If the response is to simply come on here and vent your spleen then im afraid you can expect to see much much more of the same from the "partners".

What happens next is entirely up to us/you.

The Govt attitude to us is only just now showing results . . . we are slipping into recession. The constant gnawing away at our rights and stealing our money (pensions, council tax, stealth taxes like speeding fines etc) and the over reliance on public sector spending has reached such a level that Joe and Josephene Bloggs are now spending far less than they used to and the whole country is suffering.

This is the ultimate result of Tony Bliar's sickening attitude to the general working, tax paying public, what he calls "middle England".

I get so angry sometimes I don't have the words. We can't complain now because of the terrorism bill, we'd be arrested and not allowed near Parliament.

Scum.

Interestingly enough thats my favoured option now for the reasons below.

The problem with people in this country is simple: They wont get off their own arses and remove the boot pressing down on their necks.
They cant be arsed to help themselves, they expect everyone else to "do it" while they settle down and watch the mindless, brain rotting shite coming from the box 'O tricks in the corner and smugly referred to by the broadcasting arm of Bliars Party as " entertainment".

They wont rock the boat, they wont put themselves out.

And so ive come to a simple but obvious conclusion: em all. Let em be downtrodden, controlled, treated like the mushrooms they are and get the hell out of blighted old blighty before our power greedy overlords make that a frigging crime too.

The options, should one wish to consider, are blindingly obvious to even the dumbest of people: Do nothing and be steamrollered by yet more of this Nu Laba Krap, or take it to em using whatever methods are deemed fit.( Heres a hint: thats what THEY do).

The choice is still yours.

I think I shall buy a und accidentally run over them all.....

Ist spying on movements - ist not about anything to hide - ist infringement of civil liberty to monitor like this
.
Ist not going to stop the true idiots anyway...

The village idiot when asked questions said it would catch boy racers und car thieves...

How? A photo of car retrieved 14 days later und registered keeper not believed when they say car was stolen despite having crime number ist not going to cop these chav muppets from being dangerous...

Mr B must have to now be considered as being several fruit short of a fruit pudding ... if this is his next brainmushed idea...

Brunstom needs to get a grip on life. He is so out of touch with reality that he deserves to be fired, ridiculed and preferably kicked out of this country. Never before have I felt so anti a senior police officer - this man alone is responsible for driving a wedge between the public and the police.. he is a loose cannon who needs to be stopped at once.

Lets just review his legacy:

1) Speed camera convictions up massively in his area yet deaths up
2) Profits up but burglaries up
3) Promoting the use of speed cameras in cats eyes
4) Attempting to push through dropping the limit on prosecution to 71 on a motorway / dual carriageway

Glad to see that this man has his finger on the pulse. Fire the moron....

I dont speed either, but I totally disagree with these stealth cameras.

If currently speed cameras have to be clearly identified, how do they intend to identify these ones?

Someone somewhere has his head up his rear end if they ever expect each and eveyone vehicle in the United Kingdom to abide exactly to all speed limits.

Perhaps a group, such as the "Animal rights campaigners" will spring up, and burn down the bloody factory which make these things................

Come back George Orwell, all is forgiven.....

Too bloody right. That's exactly what I intend to do and every time this bunch of chippy b@stards come up with another "big brother" initiative my resolve is strengthened still further.
