Wiper delay switch

Not sure whether Chims have the same switch, but I have come to realise that the delay timer variable switch on the left side of the steering column is not working.
The wipers work OK and the delay works but the variable potentiometer thingy doesn't (I don't think it ever has whilst I have had the car)

I have tried the search engine with no luck, so hence the question here.

Before I start dismantling the dash - is there a more likely culprit i.e. the switch itself, are they a bit temperamental?
Without looking at the Bible I guess the plastic column cover comes off OK to get access?

Although it's down in the weeds with respect to general mechanical type questions, an answer or two would be most apppreciated.

ITS JUST A VARIABLE POT, TAKE OFF COLUMN COVER AND ITS A SMALL PLUG SEE IF ITS OFF IF NOT CANNOT BE MORE THAN A FEW PENCE.THATS IF ITS THE SAME AS GRIFF.

Thanks for the link Baldy, but I had seen that thread and it seems to concentrate on total loss of the intermittent wipe and wiper park problems. In hindsight I probably didn't explain my problemett very clearly.
I think Bagpuss may have guessed the component I was talking about which is located in the steering column shroud and its only pennies to change. He seems to be very confident because he was very LOUD!

Anyway thank you both, I will take the little beastie out and try and match it from somewhere, perhaps RS or Farnell stock them.

Hi Dutchone, the wiper delay pot has solder tag connections on the back, just two wires from here to the plug coupling in the column shroud to the main loom. These tags are prone to breaking off, have seen this happen on my own car and one other. Normally there is enough tag left to re-solder to if your lucky and are handy with a soldering iron.
