What Car Should TVR Make Next?
Discussion
If you were Mr S and were toying with the idea of which car you should make as a priority next, putting aside issues like whether the speed six is a good idea or not and following on from a conversation/argument I was having with a mate, what car should TVR make next, that they don't currently have in their line-up?
Some things to consider:
- Number of seats
- Engine type (completely up for grabs) - for example a smaller package to allow for a entry level coupe. I'd prefer to stick to packaging reasons for choice rather than the usual reliability argument.
- Pricing/Place in market - entry level/top end/somewhere in between.
Personally I'd like to see a 2+2 replacement for the Cerb, given that the range is currently based on 2 seaters only (if you exclude the Typhon which, if memory serves me correctly was due to be a 2+2). I'd stick with the Speed Six as it's the unit they currently use and so development costs should be kept to a minimum to house it. Pricing around the same level as a Cerb when new, allowing for increases in line with market changes, for obvious reasons.
Get the kids in the back, addicted to the marque from an early age! :D

That's my idea I'm posting around for the last 18 months . . . ;-(
32v AJP8 with about 500 horsies and off you go. But that's no option I've learned . . .
Entrylevel TVR: Tamora with 2.4 4-inline and absolutely no options. Steel dash etc. . .
TVR should offer 'naked' cars to get tailormade by the buyers . . . that would make 'em even more special. Choice of engine, diff, box etc.
Not keen on the Lotus competitor/entry level rollerskate idea. Big front-engined, RWD is what TVR do best.... stick to it & let Lotus do what they do best.
Vote here for a 2+2 replacement.
But the wind rather taken out of my sails now that T2 conv available - I never thought the Tamora a worthy or good looking enough replacement for the Griff, but I think the T2C could be the business. We need more convertibles for posers like me!

need a new v8 people have bought tvrs for years simply for the v8 noise and power status ,using one 6 cylinder unit to fit all may cut costs but will also loose sales i love the sagaris however i have a 350 with a 4ltr unit and i think it lacks punch and the torque of my 4.5 cerb. I think p wheeler watched to many bond films with 6 cylinder db5s im told they were his passion well aston have moved on to v12s along time ago and wheelers gone so time for a new v8 get your rubles out smolenski
Simple! If they are to survive like the full glory of the 90's then bring back an 'S' replacement, ie low buget at around 20k. After all the S got the Griff and Chim off 'the starting grid.' For those of you against the idea, you may not like it, but look at the success story of Lotus and compare the sales with their top end models - no comparsion. Over to the 'Russian' What does he think???!!! Hmmm.

A lightweight Lotus basher, to show that TVRs can handle, broaden the appeal which is a bit too focused and maybe open another challenge series
They already make one Pete - it's called the Tamora, and it is as good a car as anyone can make which handles like an Elise but has the comfort and style of a proper car (yes, I know I'm biased) - but my Megahoon experience tells me that a Tamora is just about as close as you can get to the ideal compromise between track and road.
But I agree with the middle bit - TVR's focus does need to broaden out.
(Edited to add) -
TVR do not need to go down the "people's car" route - the MX5 does that already, and TVR would just be playing catch up in a market to which their prodcut has never been aimed. They just need to address the reliability, useability, and safety issues in theirn target markets, and start to compete with Porsche et al on a level playing field that has already been created, and which they cannot alter to suit their own established whims and fancies.
Do what they do, but do it better, should be their aim.

TVR should never make an Elise type car as that just isn't TVR IMHO. If you want an Elise/VX220/Boxster then buy one, dont try and get TVR to make one. TVR build big engined, RWD Sports/Supercars and thats the way it should be. Next car, a 4.2/4.5/5.0 Speed 6, add a blower in for good measure if they wish!

I would like to see a Cerbera Mk 2 obviously, as I own one, and think the AJP8 is a fabulous piece of kit.
I think its most likely that the Typhon would be touted as the next new model, I know its still of the Wheeler era, but as far as the general public are concerned its a brand new design. Lets face it, all the tooling is probably there, its a 2+2, its based on the Tuscan platform (I think).
Body uses bonded composites technology, its race proven, erm, well they managed to make it to the end of the Le Mans 24 hour race with a bit of fettling.
They will most probably stick with the Sp6, but there's always a chance they might use some kind of V8 alas probably not the AJP8 but there is always a slim hope, as they had said engine on display at the TVR London opening.

A 2+2. Some of us have to have a very slight amount of practicality to justify the car. I currently have a Cerbera and will (when the time comes) need to replace it with a 2+2. That leaves me with the choice of a newer Cerbera or a ...........
Not a lot else out there that's exciting and 2+2 is there!
The 911 is a bit of an old mans car, the Monaro not nice looking, a DB7 is too soft, Maserati too posey.....come on TVR give us the 2+2 you keep threatening to.

Well, they've covered the replacement for the Griff with the Tuscan 2C, a stunning car.
Reports coming back to me from Mid Essex people are that it's the mutts nuts and they are well pleased with it.
I agree with a point above that TVR do not need an entry level car, there are enough about in other marques and it would be good to keep TVR as a car to 'aspire' to own.
It was Ray's 'dream' car and it felt like a huge achievement when we finally could afford one.
That just leaves a gaping hole where the 2+2 used to be.
Trouble is, the Cerbera is such an amazing TVR that it will be a hard act to follow.
I would agree also with the point made earlier that many people buy into TVR for the V8 sound.
As I've said before, it's the only thing I miss about having the Sagaris, and we miss it a lot....tunnels are just not the same!
So....a 2+2 500+bhp with a V8 burble has got to be on the cards.........
One of those, ready in another 2 years would suit Ray nicely Mr S....thank you
