Had a quick question on Insurance. Places to get quotes etc, any recomended etc. Any suggestion and prices to expect etc.

Was looking at a 4.5 Cerbera, but having a look at the Ultima at the moment. Well, very very new but I must say that the fact they run on the Chevy block would make a change to the TVR's I've has before.

Thanks in advance

I came to Ultima from having owned a few TVR's, was surprised at how cheap my Can am is to insure, think I paid £800 at the last renewal 5000 miles a year, named driver etc.. which compares to my previous renewal on a Cerbera of well over £1300.

I am with MSM they seem to be very reasonable.

Do a search on this forum, there is a fair ammount of info on the subject.

Cheers Mark, will have a look. I wanted to get a 'feel' for the car and running costs etc. Might sound a bit daft, but as you know TVR's arnt cheep to keep runnig, and I wanted just to see that I dont take on a higher cost car. Still might get a 4.5LW.

Now, just need to convince the wife

You'll not be paying TVR dealership prices for servicing etc. If you don't want to do it yourself then just take it to your local mechanic, there is nothing inside that he can't handle.

MSM is my insurer.

I've been running a 6yr old sport for almost a year and, apart from the fuel, the running costs are smaller than on my Impreza Turbo of the same age. My local mobile mechanic has no trouble with anything engine/electrics/suspension/brakes that I don't have the time to do because mechanically it's very simple. Chevy parts are cheap. Ultima parts aren't too bad either, certainly way cheaper than a similar speed ferrari

cheers
Roger.

I'm with Classic Line.

I did try MSM but they quoted about the same price as Classic. Problem was they wanted a tracker fitted as well!!

Is that normal? Seems a bit odd to me.

The tracker requirement seems a bit odd but there are many special requirements insurers impose dependant on the area the car is kept and the conditions i.e. garaged.
My understanding is that no Ultima have ever been stolen.

When at the Donington show on Sunday the 16th I was talking to an owner of a red GTR, one subject regarded insurance costs. He said that he had recently re-insured after shopping around and got a fully comp policy for something under £300. Unfortunately he did not know about PistonHeads and I am unable to remember exactly who his broker was. I was convinced he said Graham Sykes or Adrian S Flux and that they had an Ultima GTR make/model listed on their website but I have not been able to find it! Damn and double damn!!! I am currently paying around the £800 mark, £300 would be much nicer…

Is that because we're all paranoid about that happening?! And therefore watch them like hawks or rather like the Noble cars, as they are so rare, that there's no market for a stolen one!

I guess joy riders would be the worst fear, that and pimply little school boys... either would probably wrap the car around the nearest tree/power pole...

just my £0.02

Oh, and I pay around the £800 mark thru Footman James... so £300 would be much nicer... but I think I have to have my UK licence for a bit longer...

Do these insurance quotes with MSM and Classic Line include Track day cover. If not, what do owners do about track days ?

Thanks

My Footman James one does NOT include it...

But you can usually get insurance thru Competition Car Insurance, it's usually around 1% of the cars value PER track day...

I would be surprised if any company would insure for track days. Mine certainly does'nt!

I did get a quote for a track day recently through Moris. They wanted about £250 for the day. Excess was £3,100 and a max payout of £30,000.
£250 plus the cost of the track day makes it an expensive day out.

So I decided not to bother. I'm sure there are cheaper quotes out there somewhere, but the excess you would have to pay in the event of an accident would be about the same.

I got the same figures from Moris as GTR-gaz for a single track day that I did back in April. I too decided to 'risk it', even a 1% of value rule still adds up to a lot for our cars.

Very interesting. This probably goes a long way to explaining why I never see many Ultimas at trackdays, plus of course, there aren't many around anyway (relatively speaking) !
Are there any other reasons I should know about before I take the plunge ?

£300 sounds remarkably cheap. I've been quoted almost £300 for build-up insurance.
